Many people seem to have confused Solo Play with Isolationist Play. Solo Players want to: 1. Plant their own flag. 2. Build their own base of operations. 3. Build their own ships. 4. Sail their own ships. 5. negotiate their own contracts. 6. Make their own trades. 7. Fight their own fights. They are not looking to avoid interaction with others. They just want to do it on their own and share those accomplishments with their friends. An Isolationist player doesn't want to interact with another player in any way and is content to play single player.

Now im not talking electric or gas powered but mechanical machines that are buildable at higher levels to help harvest. I just dont feel like taming fits the genre here. This is a game about sailing but in reality sailing is nothing more than a way to travel and there is no real focus on it. So in stead of taming an elephant for wood why not add some contraption that you attach to an animal like the bull or something to harvest wood and other resources alike. Why not give the ability to create a mine and add npcs to work them for pay of course that slowly gathers metal/rocks over time...? Employees if you will. I dunno im just throwing things out there because truthfully i feel like im playing ark again but i just wanna sail but really have no reason to atm.

This line: "A large number of you have expressed that you are unable to make enough progress to reach this stage of the game, due to our hardcore design" In what reality do you people exist to think you have a hardcore design. It's an insult to the word design. Like you people realize that people have played games here since the 1970's right, some, through the 80's, 90's and almost 20 years through the 00's. You are talking to people who were playing Mario Bros in 1984 and in that timeline there exists this thing you released....and you think players struggle because you have a design that is "hardcore". The arrogance and complete delusion of reality of your situation, and the disconnect between you and your playerbase is astonishing. I really do think that if you plan to make a career out of creating video games, that you guys take a huge step back and re-examine how you are viewed as game developers and why. Because that statement is delusional. Like how did you manage to place blame on the players in a statement to said players for your own failures. Not ours.

From what I can tell this only matters to the person doing the hiring/captaining of the ship. If you hire them they will be cheaper per hour, if you captian the ship they will be cheaper to feed. Doesn't matter who built the ship. Edit: Natures Cry - Doubles damage works on only the mount you are on for a short duration of time(duration increases with each skill you take down to advanced) Natures Touch - Heals creature for a percentage of health over time, duration increases for each skill you take down to advanced Artillery reload/aiming skills do seem to work for any NPC on the cannons but I have not personally fully explored this. Firearm reloading skills grant about 3 seconds faster reloading time. Archery damage skills do not seem to be worth it(30% additional damage max and the feat greatly damages your bow and the aim portion doesn't seem to do anything) Throwing Knives and oil jars are super effective(knives are basically like firing a pistol only faster and no reload) Melee skills, 1h haven't played with but with dodge it's not really necessary(double tap directional key to dodge) 2h crush feat is nice does a lot of damage and stuns, useful for the army of the damned tank Captaineering as mentioned only seems to matter to the guy at the helm but the reload overdrive feat that is really nice, affects npcs and players alike so the cannons all reload much quicker. Medicine - Savior feat affects about 2-3 foundations away radius but consumes a full kit, using just the kit on one person heals percentage wise and only uses about a quarter of a kit per use. Armorer - Ignore the shield tree, just dodge much more efficient and you don't carry a 45kg weight around. The bonuses are nice to have but not necessary Hand to Hand - just get the torpor buff, haven't played with more than this as if I'm doing melee it's with a sword. Farming - buffs are nice from foods but the skill points for soil growth bonus / large crop plots are a complete waste. Piracy - Knowledge of the old ones only affects the player so this is a nice to have early on to make treasure hunting easier before you use tames/fire arrows and oil jars. The plunder only affects digging in the dirt, not treasure hunting and diving bonuses are not worth it yet as the improved oxygen bonus in the survival tree beats using the diving suit altogether(outside of the fortitude buff it gives). Navigation Tools - Literally everything here seems to be a waste, you have a map and a compass with a general direction you need to go in. There is very little reason to even bother with this. This is an all over build and requires being level 50 to get it but if you invest in ship building to get a speed sloop(medium speed sail on a sloop) and then get a bear going you should be able to do fine. Obviously better in a large group but this is a "soloish" buildout. https://atlascalculator.com/?ac_a6k2XA

I guess pictures say more than words, but here is just a clear line showing how much these "devs" are pissing people off over time.
  8. 3 points
I've realized the broader problem with Atlas.. They've lost sight of the core concept, and are instead trying to do too much, and it is dragging the game down. They need to sit down, and think about cutting certain things out of the game that weigh it down. When thinking of Atlas, The term "keep it simple stupid" comes to mind. Or the term "don't overcomplicated the simple, or simplify the complex". Let me list a few areas where the game has been damaged by overcomplication; where simplicity would make a superior overall experience. 1. Vitamins Why oh why of all things would you make food and water a more complex system? It is almost like you needed a reason to have the cooking tree in the game. Once again, I find myself time and time again telling the devs to STOP crowbarring things in the game that it doesn't need for the sake of appearing more expansive, and/or innovative. This should be as simple as eat food, and drink water.. But no. For some reason, they had to make what was already a bothersome chore even worse. Stop it. It essentially boils down to an annoying little side minigame you have to constantly manage. It isn't fun, it is just annoying. Keep it simple; food and water is enough. If you want to keep cooking, fine, just put some interesting buffs on the food you can make. 2. Melee If one thing has suffered more than any from overcomplication, it is undoubtedly melee. Infact, this system isn't only poor in it's over complication, but it's implementation too. The way your player's movement has been tied to the attacks simply makes it unworkable. Running is good enough to counter essentially all melee unless you get that overpowered ability that bola's people in place... Look at ark.. Sure, maybe it was a little too simple, but it worked. You run up and you hit them, easy. Atlas..? It is a mess. I would say somewhere between Ark's melee, and Atlas's melee is the right spot... Less complex than atlas, more complex than Ark. Also, the blackjack doesn't knock people out; please fix. 3. Age The game doesn't need it. I've already covered this in several threads, and I think this mechanic in particular is the one most in need of cutting. It just annoys people who want their character to look the way they want, it annoys people who want to keep playing one character, it annoys people who don't have much time to play.. All of these things and more (lest I mention the FOY) for what? A texture that makes your character uglier, and a debuff… Is it worth it? Really? You think people want to deal with that in a video game? Maybe on a hardcore server.. But on the normal servers? You're talking crazy. I think this is probably one of the biggest factors for numbers dropping in honesty. It needs to go. 4. Construction Overly excessive crafting requirements; aka, the stone wall incident. Making finicky annoying requirements to make something you're going to craft in abundance is just going to annoy people. Am I saying all crafting should be simplified? No. I'm saying things that you're going to need to keep replacing, and you're going to need a lot of should be toned down; UNLESS they're extremely high in utility. Like say, a mythic carbine or something. Stone walls are the perfect example of this. 5. Claims Why not just let companies build wherever they want, but implement a structure limit to counter pillar spam? This would help make servers more stable too. Save claiming for ships. ---- An example of complexity done right?.. The way instruments work. Perhaps they need to alter the buff timers a little, aside from that; the way instruments work is more complex in all the right ways. Complex where complexity is needed. I felt it important to demonstrate where it was handled correctly for referral's sake. I could go on to list areas of detrimental overcomplication, but for now take this handful which I find to be the biggest offenders.

Well said, OP. I have no desire to group with other players unless I get to know them first. I like chatting, I like helping a passerby if they need it, but that's all I want from strangers. I'm just getting to know the people on the PvPvE server I play on the most, and I can forsee some joint ventures in the future, but I still won't join a company. There's also the consideration that while there will be amazing players out there I have no desire to wade through 99 others to find the worthwhile one.

LOL hardcore design. Wow talk about masturbatory fantasies. Some of us raided old-school eq. We pvp'ed in UO before Trammel, we beta tested shadowbane, darkfall, etc. This game? Doesn't even come close. It's a sophomoric mess. The reasons why people don't advance are due to shit bugs and even worse shit design.

To Grapeshot. Your community has created servers which actually mix PVP servers and PVE servers on 1 map. PVE usually existing around equatorial and tropical zones, while desert, temperate and tundra are PVP. This allows all players of all play styles to play together with very little issue. Each zone server is set up independently, incorporating PVE or PVP settings, and I think they have a superior idea. It opens more of the map to claimable space as well, removing any need for lawless zones, which take up a ridiculous amount of official servers. Having the PVE zone around the middle zones allows easy movement to PVP areas where certain resources are needed, without having to extend themselves too far into hostile territory, plus not many PVP players are just kos, so the danger risk of quick resource trips is actually pretty low. It also gives PVP players the ability to help subsidize the PVE economy, by bringing in those less common resources to PVE players, without the ability to attack. There's also the potential for hiring ships and captains for escort protection to power stone and Fountain of Youth locations. Whole new dynamics and ways to play, all while extinguishing the lawless zones made unnecessary by neutral, everyone can build, claims. I understand these would constitute big changes, requiring some map changing as well as reassigning each server to PVP or PVE settings, but overall I think it would be a good move in the long run. 4 Public Official servers, all open to everyone, as well as each new server cluster you add to the list as the game's player base continues to grow.

There appears to be some sort of bug in the way object transition to and from containers happen. Either something isn't getting transcribed or something is getting borked in the persistence, but I've had it happened and others in my company have too. It's getting more and more common (possibly related to the performance updates) Shortly after this happens, some GC process seems to eventually clean it up and the item is fully destroyed, but it honestly means that ANY piece of gear in the game made from a blueprint could spontaneously poof into nothing. This has a chance to happen when an object is put into a container, taken out of a container, or when you remove it from your equipped items. It's... REALLY annoying to lose sometimes very nice items that we worked very hard on putting together. Edit- this can hit any item, not just blueprint crafted. It can even hit equipped gear on corpses or npc crew

Can you guys finally fix the animals and crewmembers and even players falling through boats and floors? Every serverrestart our tames, crew (and we sometimes as well) are dead because they fall either through two or three decks or two or three floors, animals as well as crew, and it's starting to get old. I know this isn't ark, but you're using a lot of the same code, and I've only seen this happen in ark once or twice in over 1300 hours. Please fix this!

This post is about the issues some people have when trying to tame a Shieldhorn and the Razortooth. In order to tame the Shieldhorn or the Razortooth you must have the correct Power Stone for the region you are in, without the stone you will get the text "Too heavy to entrap!" when you try to bola it. I hope this information has helped you solve your problems :) To obtain power stones, you must first travel to one of the power stone islands and defeat the boss of the island (a Hydra or Drake). Players in proximity of the kill will receive an Artifact Key in their inventory with a 2 hour spoil timer. You then need to locate the entrance to the Artifact Chamber and find the Artifact Altar. Press interact (default e) on the altar will give you the power stone which you can then find on your Compass. The last Power Stone you get when you fight the Ghost Ship Power Stone 1 - Purple - 014 Power Stone 2 - Blue - C6 Power Stone 3 - Turquoise - D12 Power Stone 4 - Green - F8 Power Stone 5 - Yellow - G3 Power Stone 6 - Orange - H6 Power Stone 7 - Red - M12 ^ Power Stone 8 - White - O7 | Power Stone 9 - Cyan - Ghost Ship Boss [Sails around the map, locations in the Text link above] |

Could i just ask.. How does having more claimed land make one company better than another?.. By what real metric are they "superior" ? Claims aren't difficult for companies with huge numbers. To claim they're somehow superior because of land claims is completely false. I myself am part of a smaller company, and we've completely ruined these so called "top companies" on several occasions, in several altercations. But just because we claim no land, we're not better than them?...Are you joking? Claims should not be used to measure which company is the best as it excludes smaller companies who might otherwise be superior. Infact.. If i were you.. I'd remove the whole "top company" thing altogether, as there isn't really a way to measure who truly is the top company. We need representation for smaller companies, who go for quality over quantity. Companies with large numbers are often the worst players out of everyone, because the game is significantly easier when you have more people working together. How can you have people playing on a harder difficulty represented under people who just amass claims?.. It is totally ridiculous, and i suggest you come up with a new way to measure the top company, or remove it altogether. Or atleast do not proclaim them as "top", when they quite clearly are not really.

When did they decrease the range at which non company players can place foundations around established bases? So not only have you guys increased damage to stone but increased cost and reduced the area of ownership so players can literally drop a foundation and cannons right on your base? Don't even need bears to haul cannons. WTF are you devs trying to do? Chase every small company away from the game? We literally just got fully offlined by 5 guys spamming foundations and cannons. Took us 2 weeks of work to establish in that area after being kicked out of 4 other zones by zergs now we get offlined daily with no way to defend against it. This game is a fucking joke now. Sad part is I have to sit through this crap because my friends don't want to give up because: "the devs will fix it soon" How many countless farming hours do I have to go through before you take your heads out of your asses? Salty...yep. Would I join a big company sure but all my friends want to do their own thing and I am stuck watching these nincompoops botch every change they make for the game. Since you guys seem to not give a flying fuck about how your game works why not throw down and do something no other game has done and implement this: Anchored ships whos owner is offline are invulnerable after "x" amount of time for a 24 hour period at which time if not used they go back to normal state. It would seriously reduce the amount of gates present in game which = better zone performance. Add Larger blocks which reduces object counts even more. It won't help with on grid load lag but server corruption/performance it will. All the other games of this type have all but died aside from Rust and there is a specific reason for that, a semi un-raidable base can be put up in an afternoon. (I shouldn't say unraidable because they all are but a base that costs more to raid then loot would yield is easy peasy) Any DayZ server I have ever played on with offline protections for cars or choppers or even bases has been a full server. Why because most normal people understand the fun is in actual pvp not griefing the guy who had to work all day. While yer at it add some parking via gold in freeports if you don't wanna do anything better. At least we have an option to park our brig and galleons somewhere they won't get offlined again daily.

The irony. Playing on PvE IS your protection, that's why you still have a Galleon and 5 flags all for yourself.

After two weeks of pretty steady play as a casual player, I wanted to provide feedback on my game play experience thus far. I know everyone has a different style of play and time to commit. These are just my opinions after two weeks. 1. Aging in the game is a great concept, but current aging mechanics are to accelerated. 2. Speaking of aging, the concept of having a Fountain of Youth (FOY) is great. And, having obstacles or challenges in place to make it a little more difficult to reach the FOY are great, but the current obstacles are way to numerous and way to powerful. In my opinion, these obstacles don't encourage groups to ban together to eliminate them in order to reach the FOY, they simply encourage naked suicide runs so that you don't lose any of your gear. 3. The absence of "land claim" limits encourages companies to grab as much land as they can, sometimes whole islands, leaving very little room for individual or smaller companies to claim land. 4. Wild animals that attack are not scaled for their level. A level 1 cobra can kill my character in just a few strikes, the same as a level 100+ cobra. 5. The presence of wild animals that attack are way to frequent and way to numerous. I do like the concept of wild animals that occassionally attack, that's real life, right?! But not as frequently, in as many numbers, and as overpowered as there is currently. 6. No effective, if any, process currently setup to deal with major griefers in the game. I've only experienced what I would consider mid-level griefing on the PVE servers with an individual raft/buoy/ship blocking some of our areas; however, I have been reading the multitude of forum posts discussing what some Chinese companies have been doing to cause major grief on the PVE servers. As far as I can see, there has been no resolution by the game developers on these issues. 7. Day/night cycle occurs way to fast. I would slow it down. 8. Weather effects cycle way to fast. And are so erratic. They don't have to be totally realistic; however, when you are freezing to death in a heat wave, something isn't right. These are just a few of the issues that I have with the game as it is currently coded. I simply want to give the developers my casual player impressions of the game after a couple of weeks gameplay. That being said, I am thoroughly enjoying the game overall. I am anxious to see how the developers react to the positive and negative feedback that they have received thus far, and especially anxious to see how they handle all the griefers on the PVE servers. The style of griefing that is occurring presently has all but killed other PVE games before.

I'm re-reading one of their interviews right now and it seems to me that their intention was to allow solo players to thrive via cooperating with large companies without necessarily joining them: This isn't happening in real Atlas so people ask for alternatives.
  35. 2 points
Atleast big companies in PvP have more land to be top companies, top companies in PvE have just spammed more seaflags literally no point in having seaflags.

    1) the claim is yours, build a ramp or anything and try to move him out of there 2) the claim is not yours and you can´t build.. if water is close by try to build a raft or get a raft close enough so you can port him onto the ship/raft if no water is close by and its not your claim this is a goodbye, support won´t help here and there are a LOT of such situations where you can lose your tame.
  37. 2 points
The big problem is there isn't enough land. They have made Land a far too rare and precious resource. the need to expand the map or open more servers to accommodate the population. I am not saying they should make sure each player has their own island, but they definitely need to provide more options to allow smaller groups and solo players a chance at gaining a small piece of territory somewhere. There needs to be some limits. Fair enough, There is a lot of complaining. not just from solo players. I agree the game should not be catered to solo play specifically. But having no chance at all is just not acceptable for anyone. the game should not be dominated by a few large groups to the Exclusion of everyone else.
  38. 2 points
I wouldn't call soloing hard. More like tedious and not fun after you lose progress X number of times. Just comes down to who has excessive amounts of free time or gets lucky in their neighbors. Frankly the main "difficulty" in the game is due to losing progress while you are offline or due to bugs/glitches/exploits, not to things that happen while you are actually playing and that you can "get gud" about. Can't say I've seen a single soloer complain about getting killed from actual pvp combat (obviously not counting pre nerf naked fire arrow spam) or losing their ship in an ocean battle lol. Which sucks. PvE gets stagnant and boring, but PvP is full batshit retarded. Always been baffled by people that defend zero rules anarchy as great gameplay and hardcore pvp action. That's like playing an FPS where your character is still standing where you left them when you log out for other players to shoot and collect kills off of and than bragging about your kill/death ratio. Ideally some sort of combination of the PvP and PvE rules or zones would be best and than just ditch the separate pvp and pve servers.

As it stands, you currently cannot breed bears in the polar regions, and wolves at all; which frankly seems absurd as they abundantly spawn here more than anywhere. Please allow breeding of bears in the north/south- it adds to the continuity that you would be able to breed where they naturally exist. Are spawns with sexual properties born from asexual creatures? or do the bears migrate multiple tiles, have their young, and bring them back with none of us seeing? I don't think breeding in general should be limited to biome at all- you've already given the players the tools and tames to manipulate temperature- if we can already simulate and manipulate the temperatures they would be comfortable in, that's all the animal/s should be concerned with. This suggestion is being up'voted on reddit:

So I have been doing a rather tedious task since last night off and on occasionally testing out each island and flying over them on my dedicated server hosted off my computer about 30 islands at a time and I have started to notice a pattern with the island ending extensions (of their name) and their sub-levels in regards to resources. Wanted to share what I have with people so far and see what everyone thought. Typical the resources share are wood, thatch, fiber, stone, flint, and metal, with some variations between the coal - gems categories. (although some of this may be incomplete as I'm not trying to spend 30 minutes searching every nook and cranny of each island.. even at my current rate I'm still looking at a good 24+ hours of flying around reloading editor and swapping out islands. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FJ3hQpw43iLfjBLIwoZSAarv5nbqEqrh5dp-jjsv_nA/edit?usp=sharing

Actually I'm fine if one person claim whole island, because this one person should not be able to hold it. My point of view is simpler - base idea of claims imho is good enough - problem we have right now is stealing is both overpowered (and active people can lose base) and under-powered (and one person can hold one island with relative ease). Yes, it is a question of tweaking stuff, we just have fundamental difference which part of the system should be tweaked/changed.
  48. 1 point
I agree with Lailyn, here. I think the better solution would be a limit of flags per character. This would stop 1 person from claiming entire islands on PvE, knowing they will never use this land, but are only claiming it to have an entire island to themselves. While the more flags the person owns would reduce the timer, it's still ridiculous. Want more land? Recruit people or join a larger company. This would also give more incentive to have larger crews, rather than playing solo. I understand the mindset of playing solo. I'm nearly solo myself. I work a full-time 40, sometimes 50 hour a week job and this is why I play on the PvE server. I own 1 flag, and that's that. I do not want more land. But it pains me to see others looking for land to just start a base and begin settling down and building a fleet of ships... but can't because there is no land left to claim and one person owns entire islands...

Killing inactive players after 3-4 weeks would have been fine. Now everyone can lose everything after 3 days.
