SUGGESTION eta marker

silly idea i came up with when sailing about this morning , how about adding a marker that we can place on the atlas map that shows the eta , this would help plan your game time better as you would know to allocate X amount of time to reach your intended destination , handy imo for those resource runs to multiple place ,

The amount of time it takes to get from point A to B varies greatly because of things like captains ability, wind, and weather.  The estimate would be about as accurate as their eta on everything else.

the eta would take all those into consideration as u sail and would change accordingly , it would give u a rough eta then as u sail adjust to suit conditions ,

For longer travels im sure u can make an Eta. Its just distance : ( Speed - wheight Penalty +avarege wind pressure ) And then the Game just Needs to ckeck how the wind is blowing And how it will Change whilst sailing

But it won't know what line you take around islands, ships of the damned, storms, navigation prowess, ect.  Most people don't even know to sail into the waning wind 1st, captain skill can play a huge role in your timing.

omg do u not read and understand ,as u slow down , or speed up or the wind changes or u take a detour , or even stop ,so will the eta , same as car sat navs , u stop or take detours the eta adjusts , 

 

and eta is ESTIMATED time of arrival ,

Really nice idea and would be fun to have but in reality, can you imagine how many calculations per second the servers would have to do for each ship, the servers are struggling enough as it is with more than 20 people in one grid.

true , maybe something they could add nearer release when hopefully they have everything optimised and working great , on the other side of the coin if they keep going the way they are and losing so many players it wont be an issue as there wont be many ships sailing about 😛

My Eta marker for the next island over just says

"Give up and learn to herd goats you hopeless landlubber."

I guess if the calculations was client side and toggleable for those with low end machines, it could work.

Would prefer to see wind direction in the regions as an overlay on the atlas map, then you could see which regions would likely give you the best travel speed.  Maybe something added via the sextant tree.

 

Currently stuck in K6 for last 2 days, I need to rejuv, 3 regions from golden zone.. but it's due west and the wind always seems to be from the east..
