Cargo racks were one of the features I was really looking forward to in this update. Finally, an efficiency increase transporting heavy mats or items from grid to grid. As implemented, especially on PVP, these are useless.

70% reduction in item weight, with 8k pre-reduction limit per rack seemed pretty fair... this would allow my transport gally (6 racks) to turn 48k weight into 14.4k and the boat weight to be at around 50%. But a 40% reduction in speed when you've placed as many as you can? Why was any speed reduction necessary, especially something as ridiculous as 40%?

This idea was gifted to you by the community, who pretty much all agreed that improvements were needed when it came to transporting heavy items. Instead what you've added is barely more efficient than just sailing back and forth twice, and considerably more dangerous. 0/10

i only tryed it with a brig with 2 racks and taking into consideration what i was carrying i think the amount iwas slowed was fair... u shouldnt be able to transport tons of stuff with no downside.... if ur afraid of getting caught slap some cannons on it or get another to escort u...

also the wheight sails been buffed.. try to replace 3 speedsails with wheightsails they help ur speedsails by being less affected by wheight…. also other threads under the genral forum says that 6 cargo racks is overkill for a gally… 3-4 for gally 1-2 for a brig and 1 for a schooner

The 8k pre-reduction cap per rack and 70% weight reduction prevents you from carrying too much. Slapping a few cannons on a weight-leveled galleon is just more meaningless weight and crew to maintain, and if I need to bring another boat out to protect my barely moving transport then why not just bring another transport?

Swapping 3 of my speed sails for weight sails doesn't really help, as the active weight of my ship isn't really the issue, it's the flat % speed reduction from the cargo racks that is. I don't think the ship weight % decrease by doing that even post-weight sail buff is going to outweigh losing 3 speeds. This also permanently reduces my galleons speed when I'm not hauling stuff.

Dropping from 6 to 4 racks is the same problem... it's not the weight of the items inside that is the problem. If I drop to 4 racks I'm only doing it to lower the speed penalty, and it's still 27% with 4.

Finally, the cargo racks reduce your ship speed whether there's anything in them or not. So I'm also expected to demo them when I'm not using them and either craft new or carry precrafted ones around when I'm not hauling? Come on.

well if u absolutly want to be a cranky old ass then go sail multiple times i dunno what to say.. it works for my company just fine and the other ppl in the other thread dont complain either lol

realistically they should scale up to 40% when filled and have no effect empty...

Should slow down 10% not 40, now it is useless and sailing is already boring af.

Not useless.  We use them all the time.  Bitch about it and stay poor or take advantage of it and get rich.

The cargo racks overcome their speed penalty at a very low weight.  I find it super useful to carry 700 building pieces and be faster then the guy with 150 and no rack.

I love the cargo racks. I keep one in a box on all my ships till I need it. Cargo rack and weight sails combo has been a god send to hauling. Also whistle a couple of unmounted tortugas without riders  at highest follow range on follow to island hop using a schooner running heavy and slow enough for them to keep up. Logistics is fun at last and feels like a win for the devs in my books.

Got to try them on my hauler this weekend, (PVE).

4 speed sails 2 weight sails, +2 cargo racks (they are cheep to make so only fit them for return trip)

Empty no racks traveled out at 19 knots

Returned with 60% weight at 12 knots

i think i'll use 2 more racks next time, expecting 9-10 knots.

Now all I need is a purpose built loading dock, that took an age to unload.

Silly question?  Why the tortugas?

they can swim and follow your ship that way, so you can use them as additional containers.

A better weight ratio or a speed buff is definitely called for here. For now at the very least until the market system is perfected and player base is restored so the economy can offset the grind. can always change it later, early access and all that.

Yes that's my biggest problem now too, and tames only barely help. Wish I could get those lazy NPCs to help. Would love to see the Caribbean conga line marching back and forth to my base container while I smoke a pipe on my observation deck.

it would be nice if we could drop the cargo container not only when the ship is destroyed but on purpose so we can just drop the container on a close enough dock construction, pick up another cargo container and sail on.

for example when selecting "place container" from the cargo rack menu we can then place it in a small area around the cargo rack on land, water or the ship deck, when there is enough free room to place the container. it would allow the crane to function well as a crane and help with ship constructions that collide with cargo racks hanging on the outside. they can still be spottet by pirates when placed on deck.

The cargo containers speed penalty should scale with the amount of weight inside of the box, which is such a simple solution.

Such a great idea, but was implemented in such a nonsensical way.

Difficult to express in words how stupid it is that you need to demolish the structure to avoid getting a speed penalty on an empty box, and then install a new structures when you arrive at your location and want to sail back with your goods.

This concept that they are going for extends to every aspect of the game which is wasteful and doesn't really have any logical basis other than wanting people to farm every more. Everything non-structure related (IE not walls, ceilings, etc) should be pickup enabled. No reason you should not be able to uninstall a cannon to upgrade it with one with a better stat. The fact that you have to destroy everything in the game is just wasteful.

I can see they just didn't think of it OR they used the existing coding to add cargo racks as quickly as possible.  Down the road it will get tweaked.

I can see either possibility being true.

How do I pick up the box if I dropped it? It fucking sits there on shore with our mats and gold and we can't open it, we can't destroy it and we CAN'T DO NOTHING!

Devs?

Cargo racks are actually something that works right in this game.

Example: Last night I ran our transport Galleon 6 tiles south to collect wetwood. With 6 speed sails and a very strong southern wind I was clipping along at ~20knots. Easy and fast. In about 30 minutes of farming, 2 of us and 2 elephants, added and filled 6 cargo racks with the wood we were short of. In that time there was a storm that changed the wind to the north. As I left and turned north I was spotted by a Schooner. As I zoned into the next tile, a lawless zone, there were 3 Brigantines apparently waiting on me. GASP! PIRATES IN A PIRATE GAME!? QUICK! CALL THE DEVS AND COMPLAIN! The wind and racks had me at 10 knots, which was pretty good considering the massive amount of weight I was carrying, but I knew I was a goner if I didn't do something. I dropped 1 box of wood and 2 Brigs peeled off, leaving me with 1 to try and outrun. My speed increased to 12 knots which matched the speed of the triple speed sail brig who was weighted down with his large cannons. He chased me half the rest of the tile then gave up. I gave a portion of my bounty to pirates in order to save my ship.

Is this not what we wanted?

Which one of you wants to be first to cry that there was something wrong with this scenario?

Only that it sounds made up.

I play pve.. so replace player pirates with sotd..

I get around 14-15knots empty with good winds and 4 racks.

Full I get 10 knots in a storm, avg is 8.7-9.2 or so.  With poor wind it's around 6-7kn and in calm it's 3.5-5.

I spawn on avg 2-3 fleets of sotd per region, usually with lv 25-30 gallys, sch and brigs.  Often 2 gallys, sometimes 2 fleets.  They do insane salvo damage on the racks, nearly 100% target eff on them.  I usually loose upto around 2-5k hp on them just passing through, none if I can go around, but usually you can't go around without massively extending the trip.  That's with 268% damage resistance.  Mw + racks really helps tho.

We're starting to double up with gallys doing long distance runs, with escorts.. it's probably the way the game should be played anyway.. if you want to play solo.. you take the grief that comes with it.  Pvp or Pve...

Biggest damager for me is cyclone storms.. those do considerable damage to my ship.

Just did a 12 region trip bringing back 60 stacks of ironwood and some cobalt, twigs and tin etc.  Pretty much a 12 hour trip.

However I don't use 6 spd, I use 1w 4s 1h setup.  Because it looks better.

I do think they should carry twice as much.. with same slowdown.. because 60k wood.. won't even build a gally. Won't even build half of one.

You just have to get close with an empty cargo rack mounted on a ship. One of the options on your wheel is "Pick up Cargo" if you are close enough. From experience it seems to pick up from a decent radius.
