What is it you're saying might be a permission thing?  I can't tell what you mean by it.

This as discussed with Guy Threepwood is an obsolete viewpoint.  I now accept that most of the decision making is made by the settlement owner, however I am still somewhat confused what the settlement owner can do with previously built structures on an island they are claiming.  Do they become his structures? Can they destroy them within the 12 hour period.  And so on.

Hmm.  But I still don't see why people need to think that because they've seen a bad apple in a market stall, that all the apples they see in future will be bad.  Which seems to be the prevailing attitude.  Sure some owners will be bad owners, some will want an island purely for their own xenophobic reasons.  ie Only chinese, only russians, only british and so forth.. others will be happy to have 3 or so other companies or multiple other people settle with them and won't grief them etc.  Yet others will fall somewhere in between.  But until you get to that position it isn't important.

Also the idea of creating a system that is utterly foolproof is something that occurs during development not at the start.  You're making demands for a released game in a partially created game environment.

It is almost as if, you've discovered a foolproof way of arguing over nothing.  Just for the sake of arguing.

When someone comes along and claims an island with already built structures on it then they won't become his structures, because anyone is allowed to build on claimed land.

The Captain's Logs have said it is 12 hours from placement of structure, so if the structure has been placed for 12 hours before someone claims the land then they can't destroy the structure.

Utterly foolproof is a strawman argument.  Nobody is asking for that.  What's being asked for is a fix for already discovered problems.  They have already produced some of those, it would be nice if the new claims system at least acknowledged those problems.

If people put up pillars all over your game and you hate it and the players hate it,  then you can't possibly design anything that prevents pillars yet because it's still the start and preventing pillars doesn't occur until "development", is that what you're saying?

It's almost as if you've discovered a way to avoid learning anything about what's going to happen while arguing with everyone who has taken the time to read about it and given it some thought.   In the process, you've managed to disrupt a number of threads where people were coming up with some decent ideas about systems that might actually work.  If another such thread starts up, I hope everyone will ignore that and just continue the discussions.

The reason some of the people posting here disagrees with the new system is because they’ve already experienced parts of it in the game already.

Do you remember when they patched the claim flags so people could set build permissions ? Did you ever live on or visit different lawless regions where pillars and foundations were everywhere and no one could build ?

What the new system is implementing can’t work for the majority of the players, it will work for large or medium sized companies based on the fact they already exist together.

For a solo player or small group of friends trying to own their own island will be next to impossible so we will be forced to live on someone else’s land and abide by the rules they have in place ( structures can only be so big, your only allowed so many shipyards or ships, you can’t build on resources or any number of things they could come up with )

If the developers wanted to make the game more rule based then they should have limited claims like people asked, that would have stopped all of the complaints and negative post you keep bringing up.

What you see as a positive thing coming, others see as a nightmare.

When I have asked for something positive that could come from this, you stated that a landowner could take me by the hand and teach me how to build or he may have tames that he would be willing to give me because I live on his land.

This might all be well and good for helping your kids who don’t know how to play the game get started in it but for experienced players it’s kinda like a slap in the face.  Don’t challenge the intelligence of solo players, they are able to play games like this for a reason and it’s not because they rely on someone else to help them. Most solo players I know like to think for themselves and often get offended when someone tries to push ideas or direction on them.

^ Definition of doom and gloom.

You are complaining that you won't be able to build on important resources!!! no wonder you think people won't want you on thier island.

No one said build on important resources  but there are resources of all kinds everywhere you build, at some point your are building over them, whether it be stone, salt, wood, fiber or whatever. If you build on land chances are your covering up something.

It all depends on your biome as to how important that resource is,  salt is hard to come by in certain areas but I’ve only seen it on the beach, coal, berries, greens, and even stone can be hard to come by in certain biomes.

Don’t be an ass and think outside of the cubicle you live in. I’ve often suggested living on the beach only and the rest of the island be for resources but the issue is that some places don’t really have much in the way of a beach. Some areas are so full of people that they had no choice but to live further inland.

One of the things I don't like about the changes has to do with something Daemon mentioned in his comment.

For a solo player or small group of friends trying to own their own island will be next to impossible so we will be forced to live on someone else’s land and abide by the rules they have in place

A lot of the small groups had really good ways of working together to do things.  On my first base in lawless, we had some great people who would help each other out and get together to do some of the bigger things in the game, and then when I finally got a claim, we had the same thing going there.  You meet some good people and start working together.  To me, that's what games like this are all about.

The new design is splitting us all up.  If we do get land, we'll be split up onto our own islands now, without the option to do alliances to keep the group together, and probably in separate zones so we can't even chat anymore.  If we had the option to take a bigger island and all share it, that might work, but we won't be able to do that.  Everybody wants to own land, and if that's not possible, the second choice might be that one of our group would own the land and we'd all settle on it, but we can't do that either.

If anyone has any clever ideas about how to work around this news system to accomplish that, I'd like to hear them.  I wonder what happens if a company of 10 takes a medium sized island and then disbands....

As you know some of us have already become friends on Steam and hopefully we can get together post patch and live on an island together.

They stated they are adding a new communication system in the game for pve but they haven’t specified what it is yet.

We will figure it out, we always have even if it’s just joining someone’s discord to leave messages for each other. I have no desire to talk in discord but I don’t mind checking in to see the latest news and such.

Yes I have to admit, a little bit of intelligence will be needed when selecting which materials you could block without anyone caring.

That is also where griefing is gonna start, building gates or structures overtop of nodes so only you will have access to them. I’ve already seen it in areas.

As an older woman, I've been told all my life to "smile".  That's not a phrase destined to win friends and influence people.

My post is based on not only what you said, but where you said it - in a thread where people are calmly and intelligently discussing issues with the game.  You walked into this thread and said

there's a lot of entitlement going on

explained to all of us that this is a business

told us the developers know best and we should accept their decisions (rather than giving rational feedback as is happening in this thread)

called people trolls and whiners

What did you expect the response to be?  I did not "perceive" you to be condescending, it just was.

I don't need to reread your post and smile to have a better day.  I'm already having a very good day.  But I do have a suggestion for you.  If you think this thread is full of trolls, whiners, entitled people, and people who don't understand Grapeshot is a business, go have a look at this one, and try telling them the same things you told us -

So being an "older woman" gives you permission to put peoples opinion down. Good to know. I'll remember to do that when I reach my older years. I gave MY opinion. Good thing its my own, and I am sharing it. If you don't like it, that is fine. But it won't sway what I have to say because in the grand scheme of my experiences, which in my OLDER years I have a lot of, you don't matter.

If you don't think gaming is a business you are a fool.  https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/18/video-game-industry-is-booming-with-continued-revenue.html

138 Billion Dollars is expected to be spent on games according to that article in 2018.  Based off that, a company is going to do the best it can to fulfill its financial goal as well as maintain it. That is a FACT.

Where you have communities of people, there are trolls - and If you are as old and wise as you try to come off, you would know that. The gaming community has always had a level of toxicity that can not be avoided, especially when you have people come in an attempt to control the conversation. Don't like a game or it's direction - leave?  State what your think the changes you feel you want to see  - provide a solution - if it doesn't work out, pull up your big girly panties and find something else to do, other than spam a forum full of useless chatter that helps nothing.

Sitting there crying and trying  guilt a company with "I am leaving, taking my ball and going home"  threads is unhelpful.  If that isn't whining, then you have never had kids 😄

In the mean time, Grandma, you are simply patronizing the community by your attempt at putting my opinion down. Pretending like those things I said are not true and coming in to the rescue. Please stop the Queen Bee act is sickeningly boring.

True, now we have moved to someone else’s thread and pointing out the same crap we’ve talked about a hundred times over because we have nothing else to do. Well I’m at work or else I’d be playing the game or watching anime, don’t laugh, some of the anime series are better than anything else that has came out in the last 20 years. Some of them I look forward to watching almost as much as I did Game of Thrones.

I wasn't paying attention to other posts for that exact reason. Just making my stance clear that I was not about to be pushed out for having a difference of opinion.

I watch animae! No laugh here. Husband and I just got done watching the Dragon Prince on Netflix and were actually pleasantly surprised.

I’ll have to see if that is on Funinmation, I’ve enjoyed Fairy Tale more then most things, Black Clover was also good and I’ve watch Dragon Ball (Z,Super and GT) along with others that are not on Funinmation but other websites like vizmedia and such have carried them. I used to have Netflix but it seems so far behind, I did like Castlevania on Netflix and Devilman

You could say no to offers of help.

As for solo players.. go rent your own server and leave multiplayer to the team players..?

If I leave a server for whatever reason and goto a new server, getting a helping hand is something I'm grateful for.  It probably won't be something I would ask for, but if it's offered, I rarely say no, as I'd like to get back to the position I was in prior to leaving the last server asap.  Wether I'm playing alone, with some few people or running a huge tribe of a dozen or dozens of people.  I can find myself in any situation in online games and I'm happy to accept whatever help people are willing to offer me.  If you're so unwilling to even accept a helping hand.. why are you even playing in a multiplayer game? You clearly don't like either playing in a team or socialising.

I really just can't stand people, they make me sick 🙂   I purchased the game and I have played many a many MMORPG's and I've mostly played on my own but may join a group for raids or group events.  I've been in guilds, clans, communities and made some good friends along the way,  I am one of the 1st to offer help to someone but almost rarely ever ask for it reguardless of  what it requires I'll either figure out a way on my own or wait to get with people who are already doing it.

People think because a game says it's a MMORPG that you automatically have to join a party to be able to do the content,  I've never understood why people feel like that. The letters MMORPG doesn't stand for  " if you play this game then you are required to join or create a company, guild, clan, community or tribe"  It simply means that its a Massive  Multiplayer Game, in other words it's online game that a lot of other people will be playing along with you.

Now I've heard this crap about why don't you just go rent a unoffical server and play by yourself so much that I'm beginning to think everyone who says it has brown eyes because they are so full of shit it's beginning to run out their ears.   If I had a group of friends who stayed together, switched games together and pretty much relied on each other  then I may consider going to a unoffical server so we could play without having to deal with anyone else but since I don't have many friends, none that I'm so committed to that I switch games every time they do or when they say jump I"m in the air asking how high.... well no that's not me !!!!  I'm  a independent person who doesn't depend on anyone, I have a wife and kids and I work as a welder so my whole life is based around my family and my job.  I play multiplayer games to meet new people and develop friendships that may or may not last,  truthfully I've never lost no sleep because I made someone mad and they unfriended me, I have however lost sleep because I've stayed up well past time to be in bed to help friends out in a raid and suffered for it the next day but it was ok because it made them happy.

I've learned that there are 3 kinds of people in this world we live in - Leaders, Followers and solo players, now don't get me wrong, there are good leaders and bad ones and followers just do whatever the person in front of them is doing but the solo player, now that is the one to watch, that person right there is the one who can think for themselves and will always find a way to survive..  You take a company and knock the leader out, the person who is making the calls and the followers run around like a chicken with its head cut off.. "what do I do, what do I do, should I do this or should I do that.. I'm just not sure what to do" .  Now there is nothing wrong playing the game however you like to play it, I don't bash on you for being part of a company or being a company leader, I don't make suggestions to you to go play a different game or play on a private server, no I wouldn't do that because I have more respect for you then that because you have a brain and you are able to think for yourself  at least I hope.. I'm guessing you've moved out of yoru parents house and are being a successful contribution to this messed up world we live but hey who knows.. you may be 30 years old living in your parents house and you may believe that is the way everyone lives, you walk around with your chest sticking out banging on it like King Kong... yelling at the top of your lungs " Look at me ma, I'm on top of the world" the sad part is you may actually believe it too..   I got news for you, life has a way of smacking you in the face with a semi truck and asking you what are you going to do now.... huh what now ?

No, I try to show each player the same respect and gratitude that I would expect them to show me, now just to save you from guessing I'll go ahead and tell you... Yes I am a asshole, Yes your life doesn't mean much to me, Yes I know I'm mean, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes  and No I don't really care.

Well I hope you had a good read and your blood pressure is still in check,  Have a good night and I'll check back to see your response in the morning.

                           Sincerely your friendly neighborhood spider-man
