Atlas needs more PVE content on PVPVE and PVE servers for the long term. Share ideas if you have any

Recommended Posts

So I know you have been adding questing and are planning to add player bounties soon but I think you could really expand on the PVE content which would give both PVP players and PVE players tons of repeatable content to do. You could easily expand on levels of difficulty, rewards, etc.

So the intent to a degree as previously stated is to have Atlas be a big MMORPG similar in some ways to EVE. Most MMO’s have daily, weekly or other kinds of repeatable content to do on a regular basis.

One type of content I would love to see changed is a kind of quest/bounty system that can be repeated. You could either add a menu we can access, maybe a bounty board which can be crafted or which is located on every settlement near a settlement town square or something. You can accept individual bounties, make a party and accept a group bounty or have a company level bounty. For a starting idea it would essentially be to have NPC fleets you can get a bounty to go hunt and sink for X reward. Some of the rewards can be tier based on difficulty as well as quantity etc. You could be given a bounty to chase down a merchant ship, take out Armada X of navy Y, You could also add NPC islands which are prebuilt bases which players can accept bounties to Siege. Clear the fort and get to the loot room. After a while the fort resets. As for the shipping bounties you could be given a location to go to similar to the maps. Once you approach the area you could either 1 spawn in the ships or 2 have a situation where you have to try and find them within the vicinity. The bounty can have a timer from when you start to have to get to the location. More time if it’s further away. Daily limits and reset timers after X time.  After the ships spawn in or you find them a ship battle commences of varying ship types and numbers depending on what kind of bounty it is. This could be listed in the bounty. After succeeding to sink the NPC ships you could loot the shipwrecks. This also would leave open a PVP opportunity if someone happens upon you and sees you looting a freshly sunk bounty. You could instead of having SoTD allow the crew members who don’t die and sink to the bottom to be pressed into service aboard your ship, those who refuse can be executed or taken back to a Freeport and turned in for a bounty or other countless options. We are supposed to be pirates and we should be pirating merchants and navies. Sometimes we will work together and sometimes we will fight each other over what the other has.

You could have Infamous NPC pirates to fight as well in addition to the bounties placed on other players.

As far as what kind of loot you can really expand on it. Gold is an obvious choice. You could also have rare items that get used in additional content which gets added down the road. rare trading spices,  metals, woods, blueprints, cosmetics, etc. You could also have items to collect and turn back in for different items in the Freeport. Ship customizations and all sorts of other similar things the options are endless.

I really feel like this game is too heavily focused around PVP at the moment and that is going to cause the game to be very limited as to who it draws in. I think by adding non PVP content on both servers will drag in a lot more players and leave everyone with something to do. Even people who PVP enjoy PVE content.

Powerstone islands are another big opportunity for content. You could add this as a bounty as well beyond just the quests to do each powerstone for the eventual kraken fight. I would also love to see the powerstone island tunnels expanded upon. You could turn the tunnels into a dungeon, find a key to open the door inside this could be the powerstone key itself or another key that gets you inside. You could fight your way through or have puzzles or really expand on this and make it a fun challenge to get to the powerstone beyond the current cobra/bat maze where you just keep trying until you get through. There could be unique rewards at the end of each one which makes unique items. There could even be multiple types which players could trade parts and pieces with each other to make said items.

I really hope the Kraken is just the first kind of “end game” raid style content on the game. This again can be greatly expanded upon as the game goes on having different types of bosses to fight both at sea and on land.

I am sure other people have other ideas for PVE content in the game and I think you guys really need to add more. I am really hoping that Atlas does not repeat the Ark style of PVP only content. In my opnion it’s a toxic environment for most players to enjoy. If you want this game to be an EVE style game it needs a lot more content to do beyond PVP and things everyone can enjoy.

I also think the PVP server should have low risk low reward zones which players can be safe inside of and high risk high reward areas where PVP is the mainstay. I would personally like to see PVE only servers removed as there are just as many people on those servers whose main goal and purpose is to grief players who are just there to have fun just as much as there are people on PVP who live to do the same. Every MMO I have played to date has PVP on it in some way but PVE and PVP exist side by side to varying degrees.

If anyone else has ideas and thoughts feel free to share and expand. Hopefully the devs can pick some of them up and run with them or maybe get inspired on similar content they already have in the works and expand upon it.

TLDR; I want to see a lot more MMO style repeatable quests, bounties, dailies, weeklies, dungeon, raiding content with generic and unique rewards and to be expanded upon as development continues. Have any thoughts or ideas feel free to make a post.

Some of those i would like to see to. Special cave's that act like dungeon. Maybe a story questline would be nice, something that tells more about the history of atlas, like what are all those ships you see at certain island, what happened to civilization, because you see old abandoned home's etc.

What are pirates most famous for doing? What is the defining act that makes a pirate a pirate? Raiding merchant shipping. Why does this not exist in the game yet? It’s like making a soldier game where your character does PT, cleans the barracks, goes to the firing range, plays poker in the barracks, shines his boots, puts on parade uniform for drill, hits the chow line at the mess hall, fills out paperwork, runs in formation with his platoon or company, but never actually goes into combat.

As if this moment especially on pve, that’s what Atlas is. The notion that there are no pve ships to raid along with SOD’s to fight from day one is something I frankly find baffling. People love pirates, but you have left out the one thing that defines the word piracy.

Go figure.

From what I’ve seen from the screenshots we got before the launch, I thought there would be some royal navy. Maybe there will be, that would make things better already.

THIS!

Would be awesome to have a kind of contract or a couple of mission to hunt Blackbeard, Morgan and more. Sailing, following some clues and found where they are or go to some kind of freeport, fight against their crew and capture him and send to the Royal Navy and take the reward.

I think "quests" are old hat.  I don't want to see a variation on the "talk to NPC ...get quest...kill 5 wolves" dynamic.  I'd like to see something with more imagination added.  Something more...sandboxy.      Add in the mechanics for towns and cities, with player run shops and real economics, and do trade routes with what Boomer said about merchant fleets.  People would have a ton of stuff to do, largely made up and organized on their own.  Throw in some surprises when the royal navy get pissed off  about the merchants being attacked and comes looking for a pirate town to raze.

As for this:

??  I don't get it.  There are people on pve who like to grief players.  There are also people on pvp who like to grief players, so we should get rid of pve servers.

Those need to be in a fleet though. You can kill him for half the price, capture him for full reward.

Merchant ships to hunt.

Trade routes that are patrolled by navy ships.

Factions depending on biomes that have goods to sell and want goods from other factions. So you also could play as an merchant.

Explorer missions, give us some loot for exploring goals. Like blueprints and gold or rare resources.

let npc factions and cities grow and develop on base of the suport they get by players. suport meaning to do piracy for them (hunting other factions ships), deliver goods to them and transport their goods. Deliver resources etc.

This way you could choose wich faction you want to support. If you have a good status they wint attack you.

Every month the players get bonuses from factions with good reputation, depending on the overall development of that faction. This would add a nice contest without pvp.

You should even be able to hire merchants for your transport, and then you will have to escort them.

Add npc Pirates.

Add escort missions for factions.

Add Pirate npc bosses. Have a quest system in advance to spawn the boss (find him) at a certain area. Make them a challange for solos in the lower levels and for hole fleets in the endlevel.

something i miss in pirate content is religions. let there be diffrent ones again based on factiones and biomes. let us build altars for buffs.

let us kill or catch mythical creatures.

Hide treasures not only on normal grounds but in caves, underwater or on board of npc ships.

If I amagine piracy in those times, I would have indigenous tribes on island. some peacful with trade and some aggro.

Let us populate our settlements with npc. Farmers, fishermen, prostitutes and so on.

We most definitely need pups on the harbour. let us sell our drinks to sailors and pirates for gold.

Noe thats a wishlist... sorry

It's not just PvE content. Atlas needs foundational changes to drive the development of an economy. Economy drives purpose and purpose creates game-play. I've made a few posts with suggestions along this line.

I tell you for the 1000th time : Yes, EVE ONLINE has a great concept.

Basically it is all freeports and lawless PVE, rest PVP.

But for the PVP zones without stupid raid windows, war tokens and slave empire claim systems.

Tresure maps at Sea .  you find your message in a bottle as normal as instead of showing the gird and island picture, it gives you a message that " blah blah Ship was sunk in the NE area of H12."  when you get to that area you'll see the same red marker like a tresure map,  when you get to a certai n range the a group of SoTD will spawn in a pack like the dev described in the live stream.  once you take care of the group of SoTD you can dive down to a ship wreck at the red marker and open the tresure box.  When the box opens it splits everything with everyone with in X range like a normal tresure map.  Depending on the quality and level of the map you might get one or two small SoTD, or a big pack with a mix of small, medium, and large higher level SoTDs.

This  would give companys more reasons to get multiple ships together to do something .

You're completely right.

The devs need to spend a ton of time developing new PvE content to keep the PvE players happy. All the while, the PvP players create their own content and don't give a damn about new PvE content that isn't normally scheduled.

As such, the devs should shut down any official PvE servers and send everyone to a single official PvP gameplay server where if you want to make your ship and sail it around all peaceful-like, you have to join a large group who will protect you and give you some meaningful reason to exist in the game world.

Because otherwise you're completely right, they will need to cater to the never ending hunger that PvE players demand - more and more PvE scripted content that isn't 'boring and repetitive'; quests, dailies, more and more useless 'stuff' for you to 'do' because you can't handle loss in a PvP setting. As such, catering to PvE players is a waste of time unless it is monetized with DLC and so on, and they should just forget about official servers for PvE players and let those players find unofficial outlets for their PvE satisfaction where individual server admins can spawn in stuff and implement mods to keep the PvE players happy.

I agree. Official servers really only work as PvP. I think the reason they have PvE official servers, is they do want to cater to the large PvE crowd, but need there own test servers (really, all official servers are test servers). If there were only private PvE servers, it would be difficult to design the game for both PvP and PvE. Unfortunately, some players on the official PvE servers expect a little more than is realistic about how well the game can work in the barely moderated official PvE server environment.

On official PvE, the game does need to provide content. It doesn't hurt on unofficial servers to have content, but the server owners themselves can create some of the content too. The players also are part of the content. If they weren't, more players in ARK PvE would just do single player, but many play online with other players. Also, there are mods like you say. For me, the mods are a big part of the content too.

And no, having only PvP official servers would not send PvE players to the official PvP servers. It would either make them quit the game or go to private servers. Possibly some would go to private PvP servers that have a few rules against griefers, but most would find their preferred play style in private PvE servers. It would though send some PvP players that for who knows what reason play on PvE servers to the place they really belong.

One type of server is the answer. But not PvP and not PvE. It needs both. The world is large. It needs colonised areas that provide an element of safety for those that desire it. Surrounding that there should be open treacherous water.

  • Different area of the world need to be rich in different resources.
  • It needs to be harder to learn everything. People need skills that make them valuable to the population of the game.
  • The world needs to be designed in a way that people need to either travel or purchase items that cannot be located in their region.
  • There needs to be different level of items. It should be possible to create basic stuff. But advanced stuff should require trade or travel.
  • These things will create economy.
  • The need to travel/trade will create PvP opportunities.
  • This in turn will generate PvP for the PvPers and purpose for the PvEers. Both will obtain objective.
  • Piracy will create bounties
  • Bounties will generate PvP.
  • Before you know it... we have a living breathing world. A game that creates game play opportunities
    • Trade merchants will buy low and sell high.
    • Gatherers will gather and sell.
    • Captains and crew will transport items.
    • Pirates will chase trade ships.
    • Merchants will try to outsmart the pirates.
    • Pirates will try to outsmart the merchants.
    • Alliances will form.
    • Meta game will develop.
    • There will conflict, back-stabbing, alliances.
  • Before you know it people will be having fun.

PvP will get boring quite fast without more content too. And with the actual mechanics naval battles are minority, base raiding dominates. The effort to raid is an imbalance to defend a base.

I bet the pve playerbase is needed for the finance.

I could imagine a server mix too.

I dont belive pve-players want typicall quests, but some more tools to get closer that was acutally advertised.

We will see. I play since the ninethys and one thing is for sure. An idea alone dosnt make players stay. you need content thats worthy to invest time. Imo the actual content is way to less. Empty servers want help anyone. Coop-Pve Content is much more appreciated then pvp in the longterm. Its the future because pvp is ill of cheating, exploiting and unfair gameplay.

PvP does not get boring at all ever; that's why it's such good content for games. All the top games are PvP games. Even WoW is very competitive inside it's PvE raiding schedule and arenas. The great thing about PvP is the developers can release content on their own schedule without being demanded to provide it. In other words, the PvP players are happy while the new content is developed, because their content comes mainly from fighting other players.

PvE players are not needed for the finance, because they don't spend money - they quit the game as soon as they've consumed it. This is one of the biggest problems I have with PC game developers, how they keep catering to PvE players as if they are selling a $60 copy of a AAA game that has 20 hours of gameplay in a single-player story mode and no multiplayer content. Console players and PvE players do not have thousands of hours in PvE games, they have 40-60 hours and then quit and move on to the next game to consume. This is great for consoles, where you sell a $60 game once a month to keep those PvE players buying the next game, but in an online muiltiplayer setting it makes no sense to cater to this kind of player, because they will leave the game and not invest in its future success.

The PvE players LOVE to CONSUME and then quit a game. They are NOT the target audience for online multiplayer gaming! PvE players do not buy your cosmetics and microtransactions moreso than the PvP players who want to look badass while they kill their enemies. There is ample evidence showing that PvP games with microtransactions far outperform PvE games with microtransactions, and it is such a shame to see any game developer for online multiplayer PC games trying to cater to a PvE crowd, when they should be trying to amass as many hardcore players as possible.

Fight pits or dueling arena on lawless or freeports. Make it happen!!!!! ill love you forever.

add more bondage aspects to the game. I need a torture table and some shackles. floor and wall shackles, maybe even a shackle on a chain where you can walk around but cant leave! omg a ball and chain to slow ppl down!!!!!!
allow the giblet and hanging noose to be raised and lowered in increments like a sail, but with a lever.

bring back the whip from ark. i need me some whippage bondage role play sessions.

NEED more RP cosmetic stuff. need iron bars to make a wall, put in a window or make a door. Cups, plates, jars, jugs, pillows, rugs, candles, candle holders, chandeliers, curtains, banners, couches, the whole 9. make them paintable and functionable. Different types of fires. like pires, bon fires, fire pits, burning barrels.

need to be able to mount alpha trophies on a wall.

need more carts. multi horse weight carry carts for hauling chests of supplies and water barrels.

RP is a thing. even in pvp. We need a carryable banner on a pole someone can carry in battle. so we can extra flex on fools.

Hell you could even sell fancy skins for the stuff and make a killing to keep funding the team to keep bringing us more content post release. I know id fork out the doe.

Make Atlas Great Again.

why not? only pve?

because faction based pvp prevents you from killing incompetent leaders and retarded players when they piss you off. In group play I dont need protection, I am the protector. Rarely do i meet other players that dont quickly become annoying. Factions limit pvp and self policing of idiots. I love open world pvp, because it eliminates a lot of the issues you deal with  from the pve side.

someone tries to pillar spam you in pvp? you kill them take the claim and destroy the pillars. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but at least you always have a solution.

With factions one side is almost always dominating the other, then that side stops showing up which equals the end of the game.

have everyone vs everyone and you always have drama, conflict and an eternal content generator.

It was my understanding before the game came out that there was pvp/pve servers together. Pvp provided the protection and went out raiding while the pve part was gathering mats, farming breeding etc. Basically you decided what role you wanted, and went from there.

I believe a good server would be divided by both pve and pvp, one example is on north and south or east and west with the freeports dividing the center, where you could do quest etc.

Since its a pirate game the pve aspect should not be just about building a dream home and picking flowers.
