PvP heavy, PvP light, skill redo for ships

Recommended Posts

9 hours of open time per day for PvP might be fine for a PvP heavy group, but for people who want a lighter PvP you should allow PvP light - 2-3 hours a day or 20 hours a week or something. 9 hours a day is basically a job if you're not in a big enough company.

Also, ship skills should really be redone with this update. Basically, nearly everyone goes all weight all the time, maybe raiders get a bed boat at the most. Skills really need an overhaul for that.

Weight should be doubled, since weight is still the same numbers from when hulls were 1/2 weight.
Accommodations and crew should be combined. It's very rare to see people running with + crew and unless you make a bed boat, you don't need that many beds.
Sturdiness should give a % resistance to damage per level, making ships tankier.

Add a speed state that increase speed flat.

Now people can run pure weight cargo ships or war ships, but pure sturdiness warships will outlast them, in turn they'd be outrun by pure speed ships. I'd make the meta have more then all weight all the time on 90+% of ships. Do you want your ship to have 200~% damage reduction? 1 point in speed means you can run away, where 2 means you can run down someone with 1, etc. Would make balanced-er builds show up, make an all cargo ship with escorts or a cargo warship with tons of guns and all dmg reduction? Etc

I think if you doubled weight everyone would still put all their points into weight. Allows for more firepower and more ammo for that firepower. Cap how many points you can put into each category might be a better solution.

Good idea. To expand on this, why not have one hour of open time per player in the company minimum. 1 person company would only need to have 1 hour. 5 person, 5 hours. etc.

This would scale it up, so a 25 person company would need to have it open 24 hours a day, but that should not normally be a problem if they pick their players carefully.

24 hours for 25 people would be pretty stiff, especially since not everyone has super active people.

Since 250 is the company limit, a saner version would be 1 hour for every 10th person who joins - hence 24/7 around 230 people.

Ya, that makes more sense. It could be rounded off to the nearest hours, so 1 hour for 1 - 10 players, 2 hours for 11 - 20 player, etc.).

Also weoght on a boat affects the speed on the boat, so the higher the weight the faster the boat.

If a boat is at 10% of its weight, it will travel at 90% of its maximum speed. So lets use a brig thats at 7500/15000 weight and a brig at 10000/20000 weight. They will both go at the same speed even though one is carrying 2.5k more. But if the second brig was carrying the same 7500 weight it would become faster. My battle brig is at 20k weight and fully armed etc it reaches just over 10.5k weight. So its pretty fast.

Boats are supposed to be unaffected by speed until 50%.

So a speed lvl ship would try to stay under 50% weight.

That doesnt seem to be the case, my ship is definently slower than our cargo brig even when i am 30% and its at 20%.

One of my mates boats a lot with cargo haulers and he thinks it's a low drop to 50% (like 5-10%) and then a stiff drop after that. It may also have to do with wind. But an empty ship and a 50% ship are not 50% difference in speed. Also strong wind seems to offset heavy loads, as I've seen our ships that were highly loaded go pretty fast under strong winds.
