So I see alot of complaints about the wipe but either the game is unpopular enough to prevent a repeating of the launchday scenario or devs are driving the already dying game back into old issues without having their servers stable enough to even handle +40 players on a grid.

16 Freeports (2400) & 58 (8700) Lawless on a server (like NA PVP f.e.) = 11100 potential spots for players per one of the 4 big official servers. That probably will be enough for the current playerbase of +-10k overall.

In case it would pick up significantly when the wipe is done and at 'relaunch' these servers are only able to handle about 40 players before becoming unplayable there is room for about 2960 players on a server. Having 4 servers gives room for 11840 players.

Now knowing that alot of people avoid the hardest environments to start a new character with very little chance of survival the best Freeports in terms of conditions will be clogged with alot more players. Those who are eager to restart or are new to the game might be force to the harsh biomes and having a very bad experience at first and being left behind again in terms of finding a nice spot before everyone else rushes out.

Can't see how they want their servers to handle this again, if people start spamming rafts in freeports at relaunch we're in for a long night.

They literally said during stream that you'll be able to set your home server to any server you want. so it wont be people crowding freeports like the first time.

A few weeks ago they re-enabled bodies in freeports. They might to 'tweak' that change come wipe

Yeh but dident they also say that those islands will be copies of other islands then replaced over time ? What happen to the stuff built on those islands that will be replaced.

Maybe there will be more wipes later?

yeah they will be most likely released with the content and claim changes, at the very moment there's the wipe. I have a feeling the transition will go off without a hitch. People largely know what they are doing now. A fresh start is a healthy move for this game, especially for one that is changing the direction its heading with pvp and land ownership. That combined with testing servers to test the content before official launch will definitely help too.

The issue wont be that big. The current server peaks have been dropping to 9300. New server peak in march after wipe and new games people have been waiting for is sub 5000. maybe even less.

The only question that remains is if they do cost savings on official servers and scale down the grid significantly. At this point even 8x8 and maybe as low as 5x5 would be plenty.
