Why is the age mechanic STILL in the game????

Recommended Posts

What makes the fountain of youth so disgusting isn't so much that you have to do a ridiculous naked run through a bunch of aimbot op trash.. Although It is pretty horrific.. It is knowing you have to do that run EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. FOREVER.

As long as you play this game, you will HAVE to go and do that trash.. Why? Because NO ONE is going to tolerate that debuff…

It weighs on your mind as you play the game, looking at your age, seeing this impending BS coming up that you know you just don't want to have to deal with.

Take this pointless trash out of the game already! It adds NOTHING. Your game took a nosedive in numbers on the release of the FOY.. You MUST remove the age mechanic or make the fountain easily accessible.. People don't want to have to deal with this; it isn't fun.

And no, this isn't about "difficulty" or "carebear".. I like difficulty if the stakes are right, and it isn't faux difficulty.. Difficulty that punishes you for no mistake of your own. Massive numbers of Immortal flame golems aimbotting you with homing missiles is just a joke.

I challenge anyone to tell me how the age mechanic adds to the game more than it takes away; tell me how it makes the game good.. You'll find there isn't anything it adds, nothing that improves the game in any meaningful way. It adds nothing to the core of the game; it just makes me want to quit even thinking about it..

Oh, and you're not fooling anyone trying to mask your game being discounted in price as some celebration of year of the pig. You and I know it was just to temporarily get the numbers up. Your game is dying, and a big part of it is because of FOY and the age mechanic being pointless hassle. Scrap it and save your game.

We all know you only kept the FOY in the game because you know that if the FOY were made easy to access, the whole age mechanic becomes pointless. So you've left this trash in the state it is in, because you're so desperate to crowbar this mechanic, to make it mean something.. And in turn, you ruin your game in the process because you can't look at the bigger picture.

I like the 10% buff.  Soon I like the 20% buff. It is a stupid quest but it's pretty easy really

The buff in itself is bad design, it just alienates newer players. You think any new player is going to want to play a year down the line when everyone has +50% on all stats?

From what I have been hearing from friends who have made the run, some locations are much easier than others solo or with a group. I agree this mechanic is a bit of a head scratcher but from what I understand it is only a part of what the age system is supposed to be. As it does not make sense now I am hopeful that it will later on. Having spent an hour dying on the beach trying to find the cave on one server I gave up and will just deal with the age debuff until the Foy is at an easier location when I am online.  I think the characters age a bit too fast in relation to the time system of the server but I do not think the Foy should be removed.

A character who ages and then possibly will die is and interesting prospect. Taking a spouse and raising a child to replace your character might keep things fresh for the long road in the game, possibly eliminate some end game stagnation that plagues many other MMOs with characters that live forever. Nothing worse than approaching a city and being spammed with duel request flags from bored end game elites who do not play the game anymore but just log in and sit on towns and lag people to death  or spam up the chat window with real life tedium like an AOL chat room. Finding the fountain of youth to be young again should be very hard even an end game content type quest as an alternative to passing skills to a child or some other way for your characters legacy to live on.

Just my opinions on the matter not an answer to your challenge.

I"m not quite sure how a bunch of lemmings running naked into a cave to remove a debuff would ever make sense. It certainly doesn't pass as content.

Well this FOY „naked cyclops  run“ frogger game ist just one nail into the coffin. Patches become more crazy and imbalanced day by day.

If they insist on keeping the age mechanic, until they figure out a to make the FOY something other than a naked run of frustration, they should just auto-apply the FOY buff to everyone as they hit 100 and reset the age to 20. Hell, call it a generational buff, until they put the rest of the age mechanic in, and save the FOY for something else.

Failing that, just kill the age debuff until they get everything situated on that front.

At the moment it adds an awesome buff and that's about it..

But it's still only a very early version of the system and they will be adding more to it.

I don't mind the mechanic. It is definitely not fleshed out. When it first dropped I dreaded the idea of going to a power stone island and getting inside... And mind you it was pretty terrible in actuality. But it only took a couple hours. Afterwards I enjoyed the buffs and was glad I took the time to do it. Definitely an unfinished mechanic though and I think it's fine as is.

I hope they finish this age system soon and i realy hope you do not have to lvl the new baby character again . And i'm not going to the golden age casino till it has a real meaning and not a streaking to the casino where you hope you will win the jackpot of  youth.

This and the ugly out of place design of SOD is a bad design atm.

What concerns me a bit is the buff you get. If that buff doubles every time you do the foy, players will become quite powerful after a year or so and new players can never catch up really.

Search your skills for rejuvenation, current there are only 3 levels of the buff. Making it endlessly stack would make gods among men.

Even now if you get it 1 time it exceeds the debuff.

It's stupid the way it is now. I agree it does nothing to game play. The buff is nice along with the satisfaction you get by getting it. I'm sure the DEV's envisioned one sailing there, completing the task and sailing away. What has happened is players re spawn at Freeport, ramshackle to the island, abandon the boat and spawn back to their base. The end result FOY.jpg.08615ac2b115fc534732592764b1b6dd.jpg

This only shows one angle, there are ships lined up along the coast, packed tighter than this making it impossible to sail in. You end up swimming 5 minutes to even get to shore. Something needs to change. Brighter minds than mind can think of a solution.

Running naked, dodging crocks, jumping over cobra's and hoping someone in front will clear the way makes for a funny video, but surely there is a better way. I vote to end the aging thing all together.

If the FOY was one option, that you can do while you're farming Mythos on a golden age island with other players, then it totally makes sense, and the naked zerg run wouldn't be the way people do it.

The problem is almost entirely that there's no other option.  The solo player finding a spouse and producing an Heir would probably be the expected route.  As long as that gives you a similar legacy buff, then it would be a good system.

Most of my complaints about the FOY is that until they get the other stuff in, balance the golden isles, etc. they really shouldn't make you do the zerg run and should just make it something more token, like giving Crazy Eddie the alchemist at the freeport 5,000 gold.

I'd rather they just take it out.. There is nothing about replacing my character, or running for a fountain just to avoid a debuff that sounds enjoyable to me.

Vitamins? Fine. Easily dealt with, and not so intrusive. Age mechanic? Ruins cosmetics, is a massive hassle.. I see nothing about it I like.

It is still a bad addition.. It still puts new players in a timelocked inferior position until a certain amount of time passes for no real reason.

Let me guess...solo player?

No.

Let me guess... You have no reason to like the age mechanic, but you want it in the game anyway?

A bumpmap that progresses over time, which ends in a debuff. Yes, we clearly need this.

I'd rather have optional cosmetics over having my character be forced to look a way I don't want them to look. And i'd rather not have a mechanic that only makes the game worse.

You've probably tricked yourself into thinking it is because it is "difficult". The difficulty was never the issue; it is the mechanic itself, and the things it ruins in the game that I do not like.

Are you trying to kill the game?.. You think people want their characters held at gunpoint to do this trash quest?... Get a grip dude; you're not looking at the big picture. Game takes a nosedive after FOY, this guy thinks it is fine as is.. Wake up,

Am I the only one who actually likes this mechanic?

Explain why you like it.

I get the feeling you're one of those suckers who has been tricked into thinking it is "innovative", when it is actually the opposite. It is regressive to more areas of the game than it is innovative to others. It is a poor mechanic, and in the big picture makes the game significantly worse.

This is quest. It can't be done with just killing/running. Yes, the quest is complicated. Yet it is doable.

There are different zones where you can make the quest: Portal migrating throuhg golden age zones, in order: C6 > D12 > F8 > G3 > H6 > M12 > O7 > O14  > C6

To learn where the fountain is now, use this:

Each zone requires different approach. Some zones require using zip line. Another are easier and can be done by running proper trajectory.

I  tried D12 first, spend several days and here is my conclusion: it is very complicated , and can only be done with using zip lines, preferable team efforts.

WIth another words, I've failed D12, and ws as mad as you are. But after a while I start thinking and aasking ppl, and I got suggestion to try F8. I tried, and it is way much easirer then d12. so I did it just at second attempt. Many ppl says the same: "F8 is really good for this quest".

Of course, you will have to wait until FOY gets there, if you can't wait, you can try another zones.

Use youtube as source of informnation, there are good examples of how to do it.

I did F8 using this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6r7fMmf4xw

P.S. Bonuses from this quest are realyl good! Worth it!

P.P.S. Another trick that some ppl do: if FOY is not yet in the zone, there are much less monsters and it is much easier to reach the FOY. SO, some ppl waiting until fountain will get close enough to the zone, and right before it migrate to the zone run to the location and wait there. When fountain arrive they just make final hop inside the cave to rach the fountain. Be aware, that there are always mobs at fountatin spot (even without fountatin), so you will have to wait near by and make a try when F arrive.

I would suggest to do little training, before main try. Training are easier when F is not yet there.

P.P.P.S You can always try to do it on local machine first, learn location in ghost/god mode and only after that try in real.

Choose zone that is best for you!
