Placing tames high up

I've seen quite a few people now building like squares going into the sky and placing tames in them, does this stop them spawning inside if you build high enough up? 

I've put my bears up about 5 levels on another platform but I logged in this morning to find the cobra has killed another one of my bears, lost loads. Is there a limit to stop them spawning the higher you go into the sky or something? I need to find the best way to keep them from killing when offline, always happens.

I'm thinking of building a high structure to put them in, hoping it will stop them spawning inside but will they fall through the floors? I've also noticed they clip through and I don't want that problem either. So which is the best solution to use that everyone is doing right now? Because I can't keep leaving them to die otherwise it's a waste of time taming.

We use to put our tames above ground but every single flippin update they fall thru the floor and land on the ground, I've logged in fast after an update to witness it. Best advice leave on neutral. Also if building above make sure there is nothing under so your tames won't get stuck when they fall. Also where they will fall gate it off so there is less chance something can eat it. If something does spawn in at least on neutral it can fight for its life. Odds are after an update you will log in to see your tames on the ground safe doing it this way. 

So many leave tames a few floors up on passive but don't understand that an update will make them go to the ground and easy pickings when on passive.

Thanks for the advice, I will give that a try. I'm so sick of taming and logging on to cobras killing them all. Hopefully this solution will work until they fix it.

I do like I did in ARK.

You build a wall with gates around your tame barn. Build your barn with your tames how ever you want, or with whatever works best. I put them on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Higher up is to prevent a wild outside the barn from easily aggroing to them. I keep in mind that they may fall to the ground. I then build a wall around the barn at least 4 foundations away. I make it tall enough to keep out any aggressive animals that could wander by.

I build the barn first, then the wall. The barn works by itself if there are no server restarts, the wall is the 2nd line of defense.

We did that only to have 39 tames fall through and be killed by mantas.

We now leave them all on Neutral and let them fend for themselves. Lost 29 last night do to an accidental "all passive whistle" So keep in mind to set them to ignore group whistle as well.

I park mine 4 floors high on passive. I've not lost any yet since doing this. I have crocs and cobra sniffing, looking up, looking for a way in often.

NPC crew with puckle guns also works good  or just NPC Crew if u got some high Level ones from an Sotd ^^

I lost a horse, bear and tiger while offline to a alpha cobra, all my tames were on neutral and two floors up behind a gate with a ramp, I had multiple tames in with them, more lions and bears. I’m not sure if they fell through the floor during the patch or the cobra came up the ramp. As of yesterday there is no more ramp, I placed a elevator in and though it’s a pain to use I feel it may be safer. The area under my barn is my taming pen which is also built out of stone and completely enclosed behind another gate. The only thing I can figure is the cobra got them through the walls. Normally my lions were able to take down a alpha cobra or alpha lion so I’m really not sure what took place yesterday. 

  I also lost three bears to a alpha giraffe shortly after logging on. I no longer leave my lions in the pen if I have any other tames out they will always have a escort from at least 2 lions or tigers.
