Cooking and farming ISsue

Recommended Posts

So Vegatables would be a fun farming simulator... but you lack The ability of us being able to cover cooking herbs or really allow us to Make interesting recipes for cooking.... Like i got every type vegatable....Able to get meat able to get fish meat....i can get Cow milk chicken eggs....Oh what this YOU CANNOT COOKE WITHOUT COOKING HERB....WTF cant grow cooking HERB.... to do some REAL COOKING.

Devs.   If you are gonna make a game then you at least need to support..... ALL access to the recipes material from the get go... Not oh wait i cant craft this because I GOTTTA go a million miles to a square... oh look all of it decayed by the time you return to base....WTF....  This isnt Cooking this is STupidest grind ever.

Couple things:

1. A major part of the game is exploration. Not having all the ingredients conveniently close at hand is almost certainly by design to force you to go out and explore to get the things you need. People attempting to craft anything from bp’s are encountering the same issue where they often need to travel to acquire the multiple kinds of mats within a category needed to craft the bp item. This is especially true for metal since it appears only one metal type to a region.

2. As far as the spoilage issue, it sounds like you might not have tried crafting a shipboard larder and/or preserving bags, which increase spoil timers by 4 and 8x respectively. This will keep things from spoiling otw home. I do tend to agree to some extent that if they expect us to cook recipes from ingredients that are far flung by design, the base spoil timers might need to be looked at somewhat as a practical matter. Most food spoils in a matter of days, not hours.

3. Given the stated design goals for the game, I think it’s expected over time that trading and trade routes will develop with merchants going out and acquiring resources to trade to others elsewhere. Eventually this will likely provide you some opportunity to purchase or trade for ingredients instead of having to go get them yourself. Right now we’re less than a month from EA launch. On this aspect you’ll need to give it time for this to develop.

If only Cooking was worth spending points in..  Ditto Melee, Armour, Medicine, Taming (tames die so fast!) and Farming.  Firearms is worth it for the fun of Flintlock Pistols, but Fire Arrows are faster and deadlier, so I never spend more points in that either.

Actually cooking is kind of useful, for example single berry tea expires after days in ladder while stack of berries would decay earlier.
Still the main problem are:
- lack of simple recipes - i have 3 simple recipes for yellow stuff, milk for blue, meat for pink, but nothing simple for orange. Add some simple recipes for blue and orange at least. Meat already has (cooked vs raw).

- water - 200 unit of water for one tea. 2 and half tea from a barrel, one tea from stone reservoir. There is no point in touching it when you would have to make like 20 barrels to have even modest amount of tea.

Cooking will get an overhaul i am sure as we go along, most systems will, we still have about 22 more months of development, and these guys are cranking out updates all the time.

That said, yes, cooking is meant for you to travel for trade.  I traded a tamed cow last night to a gentlemen for 5 maze seeds, worth it to me and him.

Cooking is definitely worth spending points in.  The meals made are much more filling in hunger and vitamins department, allowing you to easily stay full and vitamin enriched, and thats without putting points into vitamin skills.

Armor is also very useful, and the higher tiers enhance different abilities and have different fortitude aspects.  Ditto taming, I am loving it and finding it very useful, and out tamed wolves and tigers do very well in combat with other wildlife.

Try the systems with the higher tier equipment before making grandiose statements about everything not working.

Nothing grandiose.  Nor did I say "everything [is] not working", I just think that at this time they aren't worth putting points in because they all needed an overhaul.  I have seen  comments inhere and the Steam forum griping at how it's just as easy to get killed in full plate as it is with cloth armour.  One guy reported even in plate he was getting two-shotted by a lvl 4 wolf.  Melee weapons lose out to ranged, particularly Fire Arrows.  Players aren't happy with firearm damage nerf, where a headshot is no longer a sure kill plus they acknowledge guns often lose out to Fire Arrows as well.  Cooking really needs wheat and maize to get started and In 160 hours of play in various zones I have yet to see either, and with the points in Vitamin Skills and Fortitude who needs better foods anyway.

I'm certain it will change, but until then, I won't be bothering.

I dont mind the traveling... It just Ive traveled to get seeds for vegatables that is fun and getting herb seeds would be alot more fun as well... Im not asking for everything to be on one island.... but rather allow us to farm all of the plants.... Let us be able to plants fibers / trees.  And or let us be able to build a beehives for honeyss...  you know a complete system for agriculture.   If a company requires one or an alliance of where one company could be the sole agriculture specialist.   I dont mind discovering lands for unexplored bounty of land but let us bring back the ability to agriculture the food supply.   Is that too hard to ask.
