No mortars on ships, but it shows how much ammo you have for them

Ok, so I have a bit of a beef... I play PVE and would love to be able to put a mortar on the deck of a ship, maybe even setup a couple of Sloops for battle against SoD with them to provide support for larger ships.  The problem, Mortars and Puckles (no idea why) cannot go on ships.  The weirdest thing for me, in the case of the Mortar at least, is when I pilot my ship and the array in the lower left is telling me what ammo I have available to me, the Mortar shells are there.  Why?  Did they originally have them able to be built on them before the 1.0 release and some lazy designer forgot to go take it out?  If this is the case, please Grapeshot.... go in and take it out.  It taunts me and haunts my dreams.  Even better, just reenable them for ships.
