fix ship speed!

Brig must be faster than schooner by a large margin,.
galleon mujst be faster than a brig by a large margin!

it's complicated

Ship speed is a combination of max speed -> sail units -> sail size -> weight
Theoretical max speeds are 25,6kts for brig, 26,8kts for gally, but 31,3kts for schooner.
So the schooner is the odd one out.
But because of the sail units and sail sizes practical max speeds are 23,8kts for brig, 26,8kts for gally and 25,6 for schooner (at zero weight).
Assuming that a schooner would be "more" slower because of weight factor, it would be the slowest by dev design...
Problem is PVP meta is speed... so schooners are light AF... they are still slower than myth gally, but still faster than light brigs...
Also there is a "small guy" factor in it that schooners are able to at least run away from anything bigger... otherwise the crying would be endless...

In the end it does not matter - with the new ship system the old ships are gone, and the new ones are slower already...
We can only hope the inherent speed meta will be gone with the new ships too...

The game itself is almost gone, and if they phase out the old ship system completely, the game itself will be gone. Completely. While I would agree even with tradewinds sloop travel is extremely slow. That said otherwise is the least of the issues keeping the game afloat.

yeah, I dont understand why they cant just scrap this modular shit ship system, its clearly not working. Everything that can go wrong with the modular ships has gone wrong and more.

 

and they dont care if kraken and rammy gally dont work, they have done sucha minimal effort to fix them its insane.

THey should get rid of the  custom build shjips. I just want to put ressources in my shipyard and it shits out my ship.

As far as we know, modular ships will be build by selected sections that give size and buffs.
The combination of the sections make up a specific sized ship with a set of bonuses to make it mission specific for the captain.
That is different than a no bonus ship spammed with structures (or lack thereof) to make it "mission specific".

As they said, it will give the game a "dozen" NEW ships - remember when everyone was crying for more ship types?
It is not the same as the Rammy or the Kraken. Those are test ships for a "finished" modular ship so they can test that it "floats".
As we all know the repair system on those things is useless right now.
Also they are way slower than the old ships - which makes them useless in current ship meta, but is likely the way to go breaking the speed meta and come to more fun ship PVP.

The new ships will not be as optical customize-able - not much free building. The problem is, the more structures are shown, the more lag. So reduce the structures = better performance = yeah!!!

It will likely be that we will get a look at the new ship build system "soon"tm and shortly after that they wipe the servers removing the old ship system for good, so everyone is on leveled playing field. Keeping the old (super fast, super buffed) ships in will not work...

Now they just have to make meaningful change to land building, reducing the structures needed to defend land = more time for ships, safer stuff and less lag...

They need to remove custom land and sea building and replace it with  ready buildings and ships.

on land it might not work, especially when you need to park/cover lots of breed tames (otherwise a base could be a small building with some crafting and "unlimited" storage boxes).

main problem with land structures is that Land PVP defense structures are not working to the point where you have to have as much as possible spam to get something that at least delays the attacker - hence the lag because of 100k structures all over the place... which have to be farmed and crafted and placed = less time at sea...
and now defense against ships is not even working (damage) anymore... so either spam even more against ships or hope no one wants to break you docks...

Galleons are already faster than schooners and brigs with equivalent sail types and weight percentages. Speed is the only advantage a schooner has over a brig, so what's the reasoning for transferring that advantage to the brig? And your "large margin" idea - I'm not sure whether you're legitimately trying to improve your own situation at the expense of game health, or if you're just trolling these forums.

here you have some impressions about speed. A Grapling Gally with speed sails and green wind is fastest. And no need for the OP bar shots... because enemy just gets grappled.

In the second part... a ramming gally that is faster than the OP speed shooner that according topic is too fast... well it got sunk(catapult meta) and the poor handling shooner had some more issues as well...

So yes, ramming gally can work if the enemy does not shoot on you and you have lots of catapults and barrels. Don't forget repair it is very  broken and no fun at all.

Now again question to Chukiki if you think your proposed balance change is a great idea? I guess you know yourself it is not.
