Whatever happened to the magic tree?!

Recommended Posts

I'm sure many old timers can recall at launch we were met with the tease of a magic skill tree acting as a placeholder for future content, which was again further teased during the first developer livestream. And here we are - over a year later - with no word on this system. So I figured i'd take this opportunity to lay down a few ideas to get everyone interested in magic again...

1) Totems - A static object providing various effects beneficial to the owner. Crafted with mythos and a range of materials, similar to the submarine. Examples include:

Wind totem - Placed on a ship, ensures that even in the worst wind conditions sails are never below yellow (In effect, raising the effective angle of a ships sail, and providing a speed/acceleration buff)

Storm totem - Provides an AOE electricity based defense, shocking nearby hostiles similar to a jellyfish/eel

Plague totem - Above, except it plagues.

Fire totem - Provides an AOE boost to temperture, useful for colder climates so you don't have to rely so heavily on fur armour

Ice totem - Above, except its cold.

2) Voodoo - An object held in the hotbar, crafted with mythos, which provides AOE buffs and debuffs to friends and enemies depending on various enchanted pins used. Examples of these effects include:

  1. Speed buff/debuff
  2. Temp. resistance buffs/debuffs
  3. Stamina regen buffs/debuffs

Other stats are available.

3) Enchanting - The bog standard item+mythos=item does new thing. Examples include

  1. Armour provides better temp. resistances
  2. Weapons have various elemental effects, such as setting targets on fire, slowing them, plaguing them, ect.
  3. Principle way of resisting the effects of enemy magical effects

4) Tarot - The most directly offensive magic, providing traditional spells and spell effects directed at friends and foe alike.Crafting (With mythos) various cards based around the tarot deck that provide different spells which can be combined into 'decks' to provide increased effects. Examples:

Fireballs

Lightning.

Healing

Y'all know video game magic by now, c'mon.
