I solved atlas's issues of being land based

Recommended Posts

I see how the developers want the game to be more based around ships and conflict with other players.

It's simple really.

------Simply make the islands people can build on have zero metal(and the metal gained from rocks reduced vastly), zero sap, and no rare resources and low lvl animals only. This is where people will have their bases-----

--Now, make lots of tiny islands farther away that you cannot build on whatsoever that contain the sap and metal etc. Basically, if you want to stop being a thatch noob you have no choice except to make a raft/ship and sail on over to those little islands to gather resources, and thus the age of pirate fleets are born yeyyyy.

--If you don't like the idea that players are forced to leave their islands then your stupid pie chart is going to stay land focused whether you like it or not. It's called the path of least resistance and news flash it's human nature.

--No amount of incentives are going to matter if people can get everything they need without leaving their islands.

The current system of making each island contain a certain rare resource like crystal or sap isn't enough or good, since people can just make a little vault on each island and risk nothing while they are gathering sap/crystal etc and it becomes land based once again with bad unhealthy pvp.

My system would make the ships the only place you can store your cargo on islands containing those rare resources since you cant build on them, so you are always attached at the hip with your raft/ship when you are out and about, which Is what i !THOUGHT! ATLAS WAS AIMING TO BE ABOUT.

yknow... ships, exploration, the pirate experience of fearing for your safety from the onslaught of salty sea dogs, instead of an ark ripoff.

While your proposal makes sense in theory, that can't be the answer. Anyone who wants to truly have powerful ships and equipment already need to travel great distances to accumulate the different versions of the building materials required but because you can build basic items in the meantime, it makes it easier for players to get started. I cannot imagine a PVP world in this game where you had to travel for every essential building material... Every established company would absolutely camp resource islands even moreso than they do currently, it'd be near impossible for new players to establish themselves, and everyone would eventually leave the game. I for one, loveee how difficult this game is, which inherently adds value to everything you have. But even I wouldn't want stay on the game if it became that tedious.

The problem is that ships cost nothing, because they get sunk while offline and/or anchored almost exclusively...
Therefore they raised harvesting resources from 1x to 2x early on (right now it is 4x), because people will not play this game when 99% of the game time is not having a ship and farming a new one that gets sunk till tomorrow...
Main problem is, that you CANNOT protect ships, because land PVP is also broken... only thing safe on an island is on a pillar so it does not rely on NPC defenses that are not working anyway against one Bob with a bear cannon...
As long as ships are not harder to sink and/or there is real way to protect them while anchored in your own harbor, they have to be cheap so they can be lost often and replaced fast to mitigate the broken PVP...
Next up there is no incentive to not sink someones ship... your ship is worthless for the other guy, but easy to loot the stuff in the ship if it sinks... even if there is nothing to loot in it, which he does not know, because why try to board it if you can just sink it... they had black and white flags for a reason... but as the devs said this is not a pirate game...
Lets see what come with this weeks patch... next week...

Pretty simple, sinking offline docked ships is not fun gameplay. A 30 min timer on logoff for 12 hours of invincibility would be good. Perhaps the ship could lose it's collision box during that time, so it can't be abused.
