ave26 20 Posted November 15, 2019 I enjoy sea battles so much but with current ship render distance and low population its almost impossible to meet any ships. The map is too big to have such low render distance, you have to be so close to see someones ship. Out of 15 hours of sailing last couple of days we met maybe 3 ships. It's hard to keep people interested when they sail for hours and cant find anybody to fight with. This probably wouldnt be an issue if servers had 100+ players per server but rn sailin is so time consuming with almost no reward. I know u devs follow darksideRP closely and their mod that sees ships from so far away made that server 5x better with almost no performance cost.
Enki Anunnaki 240 Posted November 15, 2019 now that would be awesome. even if temporary. the fog does a well enough job at concealing at inopportune times.
MOTIK 45 Posted November 18, 2019 i would like a sextant type buff that shows other players on the map too. maybe a skill in the pirate tree? would give more incentive to sail during storms to "stay dark" and sneak past hunters. lots of potential for really cool mechanics. we just need the winds of fate to favour sailing mechanics instead of space squid and balloon animals! Gemini Five 41 Posted November 18, 2019 Maybe it was Eve or SC that handled rendering cost at range by having more than one ship model. At long range you render a low detail much lower rendering cost ship. But you can see it. As you get closer it changes to a mid level rendering cost ship, then at closer range you render the high detail version of the ship. IMO, rendering range is a major issue in Atlas.
