Mythos infused pseudo sorcery or whatever is cool. Tarot is a very odd choice as it is associated with racial prejudices. Romany people faced centuries of hardship in Europe and America. Some of America's first slaves were Romany.

1482: Anti-Romani laws passed in Brandenburg, Germany.
492: Spain passes anti-Romani laws and subjects Romanies to the Inquisition as heretics
1498: Romani settlement in the Americas begins, when four Romanies accompany Christopher Columbus on his third voyage.
1502: Louis XII expels the Romanies from France.
2016: On February 12, 2016, Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj recognized all Roma people as Indian descendants[4]. She called them flag bearers of Indian ethos and culture. Soon the community would be recognized on par with rest of the Indian diaspora.

Important that since 2016 America Romany can claim their national ethnic status of Indian descendants and apply ethnic discrimination. So prior 2016 it was good manners, now legally obligated to a degree.

Actually it is a myth that all romany's practise tarot reading and divination. I have known many gypsies who are of romany descent and I've yet to meet any that read tea leaves or crystal balls or tarot.Although they do try to sell me lucky heather from time to time. Even the word gypsy is geographically wrong, as you point out. It was henry 8th who called them gypsies because he mistakingly thought  they came from egypt. Which is probably how the myth of divination came into romany life in the first place. All that aside I don't think anyone who suggested tarot was mentally making a link to anybody or nation. I think they just thought it was a good idea. I still think though for a pirate game that necromancy or sorcery make more sense, especially for pvp.

Sorry if my post conveyed that at all. Should highlight Romany don't have an occult religion. Predominately Christian, Jewish and Muslim much like the rest of us. As far as i know Romany see such stuff as heretic themselves.

Yeah, I am a Christian and do not completely follow all of the rules to a T. There is no reason to because when it comes to faith you are either stupid or righteous. We won’t figure out what that truly is until it actually happens.

nobody should say “all” these people do this. You will very quickly look just as bad even with saying that not all do this, because you are not part of that group.

💩 happens, but yeah be more careful next time.

tarot,  murdering people, pretending and playing with demons and undead and ships that have been damned, ghost ships  and other fantasy stuff..  ya think if a person had problems with one of those for the reasons Op said, they prolly would have problems with all over it and not be playing a game with it in the first place.  Dunno..  What triggers some may not even phase others, cant please everyone.

One of my favourite franchises over the years has been pirates of the caribbean, I'm pyrate nuts anyway, got the clothing the gun, the bad breath. But anyway I get where the magic idea is going, it's just to make the game more fun. I personally think tarot is the wrong type of magic. Like I say sorcery and necromancy would fit in with the game better imo.

Thanks for all the responses.  We all have the right to our own opinions for sure.  Beside the fact that including real life occult crap into the game would eliminate at the least 50% of the world population if they do follow their convictions they say they have, it really does not bring any value to the game.  Fly ships sounds way more fun than creepy superstitions that will surly bring controversy.

well if i wanted realism i wouldnt be playing videogames, so i am ok with superstitions if they are properly implemented and fun, but i dont see what base you have to give precise numbers (the 50% thing) so i will assume is just a way of talking, and well i am not trying to be picky here but changing the name of something doesnt add any value to it nor to the game.

Keep it fantasy.  All i am saying.  Real occult practices will not add value to the game, and will only cause many to throw it in the trash.  All i am saying.  There are many ways to implement fiction fantasy “magic” without ruining a good thing.

The “over 50%” is a loose number taken from faith percentages of the world.  This detail i don’t believe needs to be explained in detail.

From an accessibility standpoint, I agree with the OP, and would offer that money they plan to spend on adding Tarot would probably be better spent increasing accessibility options for people with disabilities like colorblindness and photosensitive seizure, with improvements like subtitles, auditory assist, magnifiers, and repetitive motion avoidance.

Those players tend to become long-term faithful evangelists to others like themselves, and tend to be less susceptible to coercion from a demonizing sermon, lecture, or confession.

U MISSED A FEW YEARS ,

1502: Louis XII expels the Romanies from France.

1512: Romani recorded in Sweden.[1]

1526: Henry VIII expels the Romanies from England. Romanies caught entering England are to be punished with death.

1530: Egyptians Act 1530 passed in England.

1557: Anti-Romani laws passed in Poland and Lithuania.

1560: In Sweden, the Lutheran Church forbids any priests to baptize, marry or bury Romani.[1]

1563: Romanies are denied entrance into the priesthood by the Council of Trent.

1571: Sweden: The act of 1560 are retracted and the church are permitted to baptize, marry and bury Romani.[1]

1578: The King of Sweden attempt to expel the Romani by threatening them with forced labor in Sala silver mine.[1]

1589: Denmark imposes a death sentence on any Romani caught in the country.

1595: Ştefan Răzvan, son of a Romani immigrant from the Ottoman Empire, rules Moldavia for four months.

1619: Philip III of Spain orders all Romanies to settle down and abandon their traditional lifestyle and culture. Failure to do so is punishable by death.

1637: Anti-Romani laws passed in Sweden: all adult Romani men are sentenced to death, while women and children are to be expelled.[1]

1740-1789: In the Habsburg Monarchy under Maria Theresa (1740–1780), a series of decrees tried to force the Romanies to permanently settle, removed rights to horse and wagon ownership (1754), renamed them as "New Citizens" and forced Romani boys into military service if they had no trade (1761), forced them to register with the local authorities (1767), and prohibited marriage between Romanies (1773). Her successor Josef II prohibited the wearing of traditional Romani clothing and the use of the Romani language, punishable by flogging.[2]

1748: Romani are officially permitted to reside and live in Sweden.[1]

1936-1945: Nazis begin systematic persecution of Romanies, that culminated in the killing of 500,000 to 1,500,000 Romanies in what is called Porajmos, the Romani Holocaust.

2006: University of Manchester completes its "Romani project", the first morphological study aiming to collect all the dialects of Romani language throughout Europe and dealing with their coherency. [1]

2006: The first entirely Romani party is founded in Hungary, called the "MCF Roma összefogás" (MCF Union of the Roma), although they managed only 0.08% of total votes at the parliamentary elections held on April 9, 2006. [2][permanent dead link]

2010: In July 2010, French President Nicolas Sarkozy began a systematic deportation campaign against the Romani. His targets were Romanian and Bulgarian Roma. Critics of the Sarkozy administration consider the deportations as a diversionary tactic to reduce attention on threats to French social benefits. The United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination expressed concern the deportations are evidence of growing racism and xenophobia in France.

2011: On September 1, 2011, a Romani academy of arts and sciences was founded in Belgrade to promote, organize, and disseminate research into Romani culture, language, and history. The academy has 21 regular members, including prominent Romani academics and public figures from 11 European countries, India, and the United States. There are 13 honorary members, which have included former Czech President Václav Havel. The academy was co-founded by Rajko Đurić, a Serbian Romani writer and academic who is also its first president, and received initial supporting funds from the German Heinrich Böll Foundation. [3]

2012: On October 24, 2012, after many years of delays and disputes over cost and design, Angela Merkel unveils the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma victims of National Socialism in Berlin.

Did not say 50% of the player base...I said 50% or more of the world population would look at this as a red flag and something to avoid.  Did not say "magic" as there is fantasy type magic portrayed in great movies like Lord of the Rings.  All I'm saying is to keep it fantasy and don't bring in superstitions that do trip people up.  Simple.

So if we had fantasy type fortune telling that was portrayed in great movies, that would fix it, I guess.

I never knew that 50% of the world was completely ok with hacking and killing other people and animals, hanging them with nooses, chopping their heads off with a guillotine,  imprisoning them in cages, and seeking out spawns of The Damned, but flipping a card to pretend it's predicting the future???   No way!  That's just a step too far.

Perhaps the people objecting to that could all go back to playing Grand Theft Auto.

People nowadays just try to find something that offends to argue about it. 70% of a Humans Body consists of water And so does the atlas map, so water offends me because its to close of beeing a human body

as per my previous reply we had this same shit post by another when the game released , people just can't seem to separate make believe and fantasy from the real world anymore , using the race cards each and every time to justify themselves trying to drag it into gaming which is all make believe

Yeah i know there was another topic about it, thats why i was wondering about it so much. Im Open to Other Other peoples opinion  And all, but im still missing the OPs explanation why Tarot is that bad. I could full the whole Forum with different things that could be considered racist or attack a minority but our of all These Things its a Card thing ppl consider Bad for some reason.

which would make sense if it didnt start as a simple card game , its wasnt until the 18th century (as first recorded as per wiki information) that the first fortune telling tarot cards were made

They went with Tarot because of the popularized association of Voodoo and Tarot. And Voodoo with the more popular romanticized version of Caribbean Pirates.

I don't think it's that difficult to understand.

And yes, I know Tarot was used in Europe before the New World.

In the original dev diary, they stated that the cards will have different magical effects which can be combined to achieve new ones.
