Q about moving between islands.

Recommended Posts

I've never played the game before, so sorry if this is a dumb question.

I've played hundreds of hours of Ark and I know it was played on a single island, and you found a spot and made a base,  but Atlas obviously has tons of islands.

So,  are you supposed to just be constantly moving from island to island like a transient,  never having a permanant base, or are you supposed to find an island you like and make a base, and then go to other islands just to find various resources you need?

Thanks.

It’s really up to you. You can stay on one island as a base and use a ship to travel. You can never leave the island, if you wanted. You could make your base on a ship. You could have a main base and small outposts on other beds to fast travel to.

We bought an island and travel by ship. We’ll probably build a small outpost base eventually to grow things we can’t at home.

Schooners are a lot better now, and they were good before. Put a large speed sail and a small speed sail on it, get crew for the sails, then build it to suit your needs.

OK.

Quick followup.

How do you claim land in Atlas?

Thanks so much.

On Singleplayer you don't need to claim an island, the world is your playground, do what you like.. On official, only 1 person/group can claim an island, to do so, they place the company flag down and wait for it to raise up.. to place a flag down they need enough points for any specific island (larger ones or ones close to a powerstone grid cost more points)

the higher the point value the more it is going to cost in gold.. for the initial claim as well as daily upkeep in payments.

Lawless islands: No one can claim, anyone can build.

freeport grid islands: no one can claim or build on.

If an island is claimed by another group ask them if it is ok to build somewhere on the island many do not mind as long as you keep your footprint small enough as to not disrupt resource spawns or their main base.

OK.

When you plant a flag to claim an area, his big is the area that you "own"?

And can people still build on your land without your permission if they want to,  or is it like Ark and they are physically unable to build at all?

Thanks. You've been a great help.

I tried to find these answers online but couldn't find anything.

You own the entire island.

Anyone can build there.  Within 24 hours you can demolish anything built on your claimed island.  After that, you can't.

To clarify within 24 hours of when it’s built, not after 24 hours of claiming an island you demolish anything on it. The idea is that generally you want to seek an island owners approval, but it is not required. If they are active and dislike what you’ve built for any reason, they have a 24 hour window from when you place the structure to destroy it. Once you put something down and it’s been in place 24 hours, the island owner can no longer demo it.

Island owners pay upkeep in gold and if they have a tax bank in place receive bonus resources equal to 20% of all resources gathered on their island, so their incentive is to have tenants because they become an ongoing source of free mats. Tenants don’t have to pay gold upkeep but can’t build a tax bank and get free mats. Some prefer one, some the other.
