Combat Window scales with Company Size

Recommended Posts

A fairly simple system, but could be worth some merit. The larger the company size, the larger the combat window.

Starting with a base value of 4 hours, increasing by an hour with every 10 players til a total of 50 players.

1-9 players: 4 hour combat window

10-19 players: 5 hour combat window

20-29 players: 6 hour combat window

30-39 players: 7 hour combat window

40-49 players: 8 hour combat window

50+ players: 9 hour combat window

My thinking being that with more active players in a company, the companies ability to defend exponentially increases (more resources can be gathered for defensive structures / equipment, more ships can be captained etc). Larger companies can still raid smaller companies, they just have less time to do so; which shouldn't be a problem as they could bring more ships / tames to the fight. Larger companies would still face a larger combat window, but with a larger crew they can spread out more across the 9 hour combat window.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

First the obvious: The large companies will make a one man company for their islands getting the shortest timer... so system is broken...

Second the most obvious: No one would need a raid/peace timer if the build-able defenses would work and not all bases can be raided offline by lonely cannon bear...
The moment the cost of raiding you scales with the defense you build raiding will go down, as risk/reward would scale...
Right now the only risk you have is loose the bear you tamed in 10mins, and only if the base you are offline raiding gets online...

Building a structure limited base with 100s of Puckles...
100k Fiber
100k Metal
250k Stone
250k Thatch
200k Wood
5k Alloy
500Gold and lots of Berries/day
Days/Weeks/Months in building time, taming time, ship building time, treasure time...

Wiping that base offline:
Tamed bear+Cart+Medium Cannon+Bunch of Balls build on site...
atleast a Ramshakle Sloop...
1hr to gather it

Getting all the stuff from the other guy and setting him back for weeks and months:
Priceless...

Now if it would take like 20 cannon bears and you loose 19 of those in the process and you cannot do it alone...
How save would your base be then?
If the current meta would be anywhere near realistic the story of the Alamo would be very different... what with Santa Ana showing up alone with one cannon behind his horse... the 185 wouldn't stand a chance behind their walls and cannons and rifles...
Or the 300 loosing to lonely Xerxes while Leonidas taking a piss...
If they would have know that you only need one guy, trench warfare in WW1 would never have been a thing, loosing a million attackers in a raid on the enemy defenses, that took them years to build and supply...

Defender always has the advantage... just not in Atlas...
Because would not look cool if the preferred streamer could not make it alone with his bear... that needed a buff too...

The game certainly needs serious balancing.

Generally, an attacker needs at least twice the men the defender has to overrun a fortification.
