seruum 56 Posted September 16, 2019 so we are all familiar on high quality maps disappearing well here is my theory and i believe it is the cause. have you ever spawned across the map only to get green screen and YAY full vitamins. i believe this same bug is the same for maps. only far away maps/beds cause the green screen bugs NEVER beds maps spawned for the same zone your in. i collect thousands of maps and it always is the same problem you see a map that is going to be journeyman or higher and POOF gone. anyone have any idea why this green screen bug exists in the first place??? this has to be the issue since both of these things spawn something at a great distance from your current location. seruum 56 Posted September 16, 2019 Anyone agree with my theory??? Its the onlu thing i can think that makes sense and fits the pattern of lower quality maps not disappearing.
Sleepinator2000 87 Posted September 16, 2019 Perhaps it is something like that. It might be related to communication/verification with idle servers (ones with no players currently logged on), though I have definitely seen green screens when porting to an active player's ship too. I assumed it might be some kind of location verification that occurs at the moment you touch the bottle as a last minute protection against maps within player structures. The problem is maps do spawn within player structures, unless this is a super recent change that wasn’t patch noted for some reason.
Sleepinator2000 87 Posted September 17, 2019 Just a hunch. I have been picking up about 25 maps a day for a very long time, and the failure rate seems to fluctuate in a way that correlates with population density. The only thing players add that could really impact a map's location is structures, and my experience has been that the few maps I have seen spawning close to structures have been akwardly positioned in a way that makes me think an algorithm adjusted the point to avoid player-built floors. If any of us could ever know where a map that "failed" was located, we could get actual evidence for or against this theory, but obviously that is impossible.
