Custom Servergrid.json for Single Player or Non-Dedicated

Im trying to find out if anyone has successfully implemented their own custom grids into the game. The 15x15 is fun and all but far too vast for single player, I only have a couple hours a week to play. Obviously, its pulling from the Servergrid.json in the main game folder as the single player will crash if you remove it, however, every time I replace it with my own no islands spawn. I even attempted to edit the existing one on my own, to no avail. Has anyone been successful using their own maps in single and non-dedicated server modes? Has anyone succeeded where I have failed?
