Fast Structure Decay is now enabled on non-snapped core structures

Recommended Posts

Spam is like Porn. I know it when I see it, but teaching any system, script, or machine to recognize it is folly because humans will inadvertently trigger it, or actively work around it.

Having said that, at least the 3x limit wastes a little more spammer time accomplishing the same thing, so that brings me a little schadenfreude.

Yeh but you'd be pretty strange if you stared at a foundation block on your pc for hours at a time!

Acktually... machines are good enough these days to not only recognize porn, but the individual acts, then timestamp and label them for your convenience/pleasure.

That's thinking way too vanilla.

Spam and porn come in many different flavors. Except actual Spam, that just tastes like Spam.

I think this change was more about forcing old abandoned crap to be deleted automagically clearing space up.  People actively playing can avoid this.

I think it's actually a stealth wipe.  Think about it..first boats are given some undefinable disappearing algorithm, which doesn't even seem to hold to the timeframe that was stated.  Now we have buildings, which clearly consist of pieces that aren't sure what they're snapped to to begin with.  (Every time you destroy one tile of a building, random other tiles disappear)  These tiles are all going to be given decay based on a faulty algorithm implemented not according to spec.

But you get to keep your character, so that's something.

until the skills and xp decay, where if you haven't used a skill in x+y(46.2^3) it disappears, along with the xp needed for that skill level.

😎

Why would they care about wiping or not wiping. The game is dead, its reputation is shit, they have your money. I could understand worrying what the current ever-shrinking playerbase cares if this was a sub game, but it is b2p. If everyone quits they have a reason to shut down officials and save oodles of cash. You can bet that is coming once the Ark Brah CEO figures out that code his buddies let him buy is a huge money suckage.

Pathetic.. this is why code like this has to be added.

Imho.. we need gm's to just perm ban anyone who does this. And then globally demo all of their company assets.

Only then will the problem be solved.  The amount of server lag this generates is technically griefing the entire region.

Btw the cleanup code only works now on officials on settled islands.  And only if the area hasn't been visited within 12 hours.

Free to build wherever always seems to be a major problem in any open world game ark has the same issue but at least in 12 hours the structures now poof

so was it intended to destroy all fences? Makes fences useless to have  since by default they are unsnapped structures.

Hah.  My crystal ball stil works.

With today's patch, we'll be deploying a measure to help new settlement owners clear out existing structures on their island. A frustrating part of the game, after claiming an island from someone else, is dealing with the remains of their structures, whether that's a large base, or where that's multiple pillars and foundations littered around the island. With the latest patch, new settlement owners will now have a 12-hour window to activate a one-time razing of an island. This will destroy all structures on that island, including their own. It can only be used during peacetime, and will notify everyone on that specific grid, as well as log into any companies that had wiped structures on that island.

So now we have disappearing ships, builds and tames, and players have been given the ability to wipe out other players settlements on pve.

All that's needed now is a way to remove player XP and skills.

So... Reynolds Wrap or Alcan? Or is Great Value fine?

So you're saying it's kind of like how the title of The Walking Dead is a double entendre because it's really meant to refer to the characters rather than the zombies? Atlas, a survival MMO, where the challenge is to survive the devs?

I don't know if your analogy is too deep or too shallow.

It could be the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the acceptance of transience and imperfection.

Or it could be the result of game developer burnout where a group of devs who, over time, have come to hate game players have decided to make their ultimate feel-good game.

I... don't even know how to unpack that.

This is a whole new level I'm not equipped to deal with.

Anyone who's ever worked any kind of customer service job or IT job with complaining customers could probably relate to that.  Might make a good premise for a novel.

I was the manager at our local drive-in theater for years. Had to deal with customer complaints regularly, and while I can relate to being at the end of your rope, sabotaging a product (and most assuredly your job) as a developer out of spite, or as the Germans would say Schadenfreude, is... both sadistic and asinine to say the least.  Not to mention you'd have to be project lead for it to even work. Why am I even humoring this idea???

Get out of my head!

Get out of my head!

I bartendeded for many moons in years gone by, which has some of the same frustrations but more ability to deal with customers who were being unreasonable more directly. Anyone who thinks “the customer is always right.” Is anything but a PR philosophy has probably never worked that kind of job. The customer is frequently a childish unreasonable jerk. In other cultures they are less hesitant to tell boorish patrons to piss off and it works fine. In the US it’s a quick way to get fired.

But if you’re gonna work in game development and pay any attention whatsoever to what players say, you better bring a thick skin to the party. Atlas’s community is neither the best nor worst behaved I’ve seen over the years.

But I’ll tell you who I would put my money on to sabotage their own project these days: anyone working for EA.

“Oh what’s that you say? Our CEO is paid way out of all proportion to the size and profitability of this company and just laid off hundreds of workers after our most profitable year ever? The company forces workers to work insane hours without proper air conditioning AND is engaging in anti consumer practices like loot box gambling to such a degree that governments are forced to pass laws to protect children from their predation? No thanks I’m skipping my lunch break to spend extra time screwing up every possible thing I can on this project.”

I know of a major release day where all the execs and investors had a few too many, logged into the (pve) game and started killing every player they saw using godlike powers.

“....and that kids, is how your dad spent Anthem’s release day. Now put the shades down, bring me some Gatorade, and if anyone calls in the next 48 hours, tell them I’m dead.”

Also I got ten doubloons that says it was the least compensated person in the room who had to show all the big shots how to activate the god powers with cheat codes.
