Is coral random?

Trying to find out where to get coral since sap isn't a thing on the desert island i'm on. Is there a biome its in?

It would be cool if you could make your own coral reef to harvest. Typically in real life they sink ships to make coral reefs this would be a awesome feature in game to farm coral

coral is so far a useless resource

Coral should be in every grid, near every island, and should not be deep sea...it should be in the shallower areas.  So to find it, you should just be able to look an the map, to see the shallow areas, and go there.  Coral is not in the deepest parts of an ocean.
