    Captain's Log 14: Happy New Year to ye, me hearties!

    Ahoy Pathfinders!

    We'd like to wish all ATLAS Pathfinders a very Happy New Year! It's been a crazy start to our voyage, and it's already filled with so many exciting memories for us here at Grapeshot Games! We've only just explored the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what ATLAS will be and we're excited for the future ahead. As each night passes, ATLAS gets one step closer to becoming one of the most ambitious online worlds of all time and fulfiling its destiny as the ultimate fantasy pirate adventure! Thank you so much for becoming a part of our crew and we can't wait to show all you scallywags, landlubbers, captains, and seadogs what lies ahead!

    Development Update

    We don’t have too much to add this week as the general battleplan is the same, though we’re going to do our best to keep you informed on a regular basis, via Social Media, Discord, and our weekly Captain's Log posts.

    As mentioned in the previous Captain’s Log, our number one priority at the moment is tackling the stability, connection, and data issues, and we promised that we would make significant progress! Over the last few days, we have released a number of critical updates which have improved our server performance tenfold. We have statistically eliminated over 95% of all crashes, and are presently working on further updates to bring that number down even more. As a team, our direction is now shifting onto connection issues, data loss bugs and general balance and gameplay fixes -- as you can see, some of these changes are already underway!

    Patch Notes up to v8.56: 

    Current Version: v8.56
    
    - Anyone can now demolish shipwreck structures to regain resources so get your diving suits ready!
    
    - NPC Trading Ships are back and no longer affected by wild creature destruction commands! Reminder for those with deep pockets, the trader ships have an epic Dragon which can be purchased for 50,000 gold coins

    - Improvements made to joining/rejoining servers, should make it more reliable and eliminate many cases of connection lost/failure to grab server info.

    - Fixed a bug where HUD may not have shown to players in some cases.

    - Further improved server stability.
    - Further reduced Ship of the Damned spawns by 20%
    - Ship of the Damned now are allowed to "Wander" away from shore if they find themselves close to shore
    - Ship of the Damned targeting ranges now are reduced by the type of ship (down to 30% for rafts (which means they will now attack rafts - but you have to get pretty darn close to them!) and 0% for dinghies)
    - -LowMemoryMode now disables the background movies for lighter memory footprint
    - Changed damage type on repair hammer to 0 against players, human npcs, and creatures
    - Ships near shore do not attract cyclones anymore
    - Vultures should now more easily harvest corpses
    - Ships that players are based on do not use staggered updates now (resolving the issue of the choppy spyglass rotation when in the crow's nest, for example)
    - Can no longer weapon-charge or dodge when encumbered.
    - Fixed erroneous reference to chalcedony instead of flint base
    - Added Ingots/Alloys and Organic Paste to the list of resources allowed in the ship repair box
    - Tripled gathering weighting of metal in all the generic rocks for both pick and hatchet damage types
    - Grenades damaged to stone multiplied by 3x
    - Changed Human Crew character carry inv max weight from 1000 to 60.
    - Switched damage weightings around so the pick tool is preferred from metal/crystal/gem/salts and hatchet for wood/coal/stone, etc. No adjustments have been made to yield changes, just tools have been adjusted.
    - Fixed an issue with treasure bottle's spawning (there will now be more of them and more reliably spawned) and increased the quality of loot found in treasures.

    - Further server/networking optimisation to improve server performance and stability. We have effectively eliminated over 95% of our crashes. We'll be continuing to monitor our servers over the coming days ahead and tackle more events. Consequently, we will be turning our primary attention to data transfer issues and connection issues.
    - Reduced Ship of the Damned targeting range by 50%. We're going to look into scaling that based on the type of ship.

    - Further tweaks made to Ship of the Damned should no longer wander close to shore, however, they may chase you.
    - Shipyards are now properly tagged on the server side, so enemy players will not be able to demo them unless the decay timer has truly hit 0 on the server.

    Dynamic ATLAS Maps Round-Up

    Pathfinders! It’s week 2 and here’s another round up of the Dynamic Maps! For those who aren’t familiar, The ATLAS Dynamic Maps is a system that monitors live in-game territory ownership and indicates which companies dominate over the lands. 

    Soon, the Companies that have occupied Islands for a certain period of time will gain the automatic privilege to name them on the in-game and web maps, as it is their land! So each week with our Captain’s Log, we’ll be including an image to monitor the progress of the maps, taking note of any exits or new arrivals and any drastic changes in the overall claim. 

    Who will come to dominate the ATLAS may very well become clear in the days and weeks ahead, though maintaining a large Empire will likely come with its own longer-term challenges...

    Remember you can don your tribe’s company flag by stylizing it in the game with a paintbrush! Upload your own images or design it how you like, with the top company flags always being visible on https://map.playatlas.com/

    Could you address the claim issue on PVE servers, many many players are unable to get a claim, they are basically unable to play the game.

    Could you guys put some more work into getting clusters back up and function properly rather than making fancy photoshop images? Sorry for being salty, but the whole game release and play time has been freaking madness, at the moment tons of clusters are down on EU Pve, seriously, some are down for 15 hours, some have been down for over a full day, come on now give us some quality of life!!!

    So far I have heard many stories of better settling in lawless regions. It appears, people are abusing glitches and bugs, to steal other players claims, and there is nothing normal players can do about it because developers aren't fixing it, I strongly suggest to you to settle in lawless clusters for now, until they fix this madness.
    Edit: As extra info. Lawless regions are safer, no one can steal your base, the only difference is ( as far as I observed ) shorter decay timers, structures 4 days, but if u log in daily or every 3 days the timers always reset, other than that, u cannot place a bed in ur base, you will need a raft or other ship to place a bed for it to work, you can place rafts in freshwater ponds too, which is great if u build near freshwater, cause some islands can be very big to run from shoreline 😄 )

    I can only second this.

    Also it seems to me that even though this is a huge map, there is not enough space for this amount of players/claims, there is just a certain percentage of areas where especially  beginners would be able to start a little base - someplace they do not die immediately due to environmental hazards (climate, animals).
    [IDEA] Hey, let us build floating cities on the oceans - how about that? I see lots of free unclaimed places on the sea. :anchor:

    Hehe reminds me of the movie Waterworld 😄  nice idea, people in netherlands are already doing it in real life. But on a serious note, I don't think that would work too well, mainly because of creatures in the water, and the army of damned ships. They would destroy such artificial floating island/ship on sight. not to mention sea hazards, I heard there are cyclones, and what not.

    Howdy, i made an account just to say this, devs, don't listen to all of that sensless hate you're getting, i played with some of my friends, solo and grouped up alike, and even tho this game IS simular to ark, after you get to the ship phase it's actually pretty new and fresh, also i was one of those people who had a freeze issue and i saw that you guys were actually working with us to get it fixed, and eventually you did, so that "devs don't listen to community" bullshit is out of the window, it should be like "devs don't listen to assholes". And for now the only 2 major issues i see within the game is optimisation and claiming terrain, but from the story of ark i belive you will eventually fix both of those. Keep up the good work :)

    I can not connect to the EU PVE server while I can connect to other servers

    I'm stuck on the "PrimalGameData_BP" when I want to continue my game.

    I have already made a repair of files but nothing changes.

    Try moving every file from the "movie" folder in atlas files or simply try using lowmemorymode

    CLEARLY you are newer, clearly you don't think logical, let me enlighten you Mr. Name Caller.
    First 2 days of release 95% of ALL players couldnt connect to the servers, where in MMO game history have you seen that?
    Days following that, 50-75% of players couldnt connect or play without rubberbanding that wouldnt let them move so unplayable.
    Followed by tons of servers crashed up to 20 times a day with big rollbacks, making progress barely noticable.
    Allowing hackers and exploiters to destroy claimable regions (still broken as we speak!!!) Yes name call me, cause they let hackers do what ever they want for days and days..
    And then ofcourse fast forward to now, where many clusters have been down for over 20 hours, where are the devs? hangover at home ofcourse! Why? Because they wanted to launch the game before xmass, but then they let the workers go home for holidays?! Why not launch the game in 2019 then!? 
    You call us assholes, but we arent the ones who stubbornly pushed for holiday release, then let the game rot and scare people away with horrible managment.

    I'm not calling everyone who gives criticism an ahole, i'm specificly talking about people spamming the same thing over and over again on their discord and shittalking about devs etc, and don't even get me started on those stupid chashtags. Yes, i do recall connection issues but notice that:

    1. It's an alpha state game

    2. By now almost every crash related issue is fixed

    3. They worked during freaking christmass to get this fixed so at least give them credit for that

    And as for claiming goes, i already mentioned it before because yes, i personally think it's pretty broken, for me there should be a limit of no more then let's say... 8 flags per person. And okay, i may have forgotten about the hackers, chinese etc, i'll give you that, but i do belive that as time goes by it'll eventually calm down, just like it happened with ark.

    True, but crashes are the least of issues right now.
    There are clusters on all servers that have been down for over 24 hours, some even days.
    That is hundreds maybe even couple of thousands of players who cant play on their home cluster, cant even log in to die and respawn on a different cluster just to progress in some way or enjoy the game, there are dozens and dozens if maybe not hundreds of ship/raft attempts to sail into said clusters, making them also a victim in an instant, they cant turn around and go different way, that is pretty serious and big issue if u ask me, an mmo is not supposed to be like this AT ALL, not even a bit.
    And I understand its an early access, but their non-communication or non existing customer support ( forums isnt really support when its not even being read, and its not private ) is just the last straw. I dont care if they worked on xmass, its their own fault, they wanted to launch right before major holiday, their problem, and therefor only fair that they stay and work on the issues of a brand new game release, but the lack of responsibility, reliability and communication is just insane.
    You might think I am a hothead, but think of hundreds of people that cant connect, to a simple broken thing, it takes one person to fix the clusters, yet they dont are arent even working at the moment...think of all the things they keep breaking with every patch, how many ships have been lost to broken patches, days of work gone down the drain, not even an apology on their end. I already mentioned hackers in the previous post who are causing a huge mess as well. 
    They said themselves, this is the most ambitious game to ever come out, then they must work on fixes quicker, 50% of all the players we had have already refunded if not more by today, that is a large volume and says something.
    They could learn so much from other game developers, yet they chose to make their own mistakes, how about a test server for every patch or new thing before you release it on the main servers!!!!!???

    Or must this become another wasted potential like Dark and Light, it was such a beautiful game, TRULY! But you destroyed that game too, now there are maybe couple hundred people playing it max, spread throughout hundreds of servers, so lets see what a meat grinder this will become.

    why are you allowing players to steal whole bases on pve.. they are taking claims in minutes now and even if you log in everyday.  what is the point of building a base and advancing, that takes a week to get built, and all they have to do is toss down a claim flag near you and bam everything is gone.. this is driving people away very fast.. and its not worth playing, if you can't build a base of operations... without 10 people to watch your flags every 10minutes. I honestly love the game and know what state the game is in.. but I don't understand why you can just claim others hard work.. why not have timers like on ark.. hey this flag can be destroyed .. they haven't been on for 7 days.. I understand that.. but just letting them take our stuff in 10mins is crazy..

    Was sailing a ship with both AI crew and team mates and we had to experience major lag for over an hour.  When changing region we all got disconnected and I myself have NOT been able to reconnect for about 12 hours… I don't know if the ship lives or have been stolen or sunk.. 
    After a 20 hour grind in one sitting to build my ship and set sail with my crew.

    Happy F***ing new year! 

    Maybe time to fix some server issues?

    Happy New Year.

    Now please "unstuck" my character between O9 and O10. I cant play, i cant claim land, nothing. 

    Claiming sucks also. All land is gone, for a game wich can hold 40K players, its ridiculously full.

    Sadly i gave not been able to play for almost 18 hours now, i am also stuck at the Primalgamedata_bp. Nothing that has been suggested works. And the server is up because i have friends on it. I have lost a boat which isnt a big issue but the lack if communication of any kind from the devs us a major issue. Seriously. Nothing from them at all since the new year and so many servers have not been working nevermind the large amout of people who are having the same issue as me.

    The servers are currently in the worst state I've seen them, I'd much rather crash a few times per hour than have the current 24/7 rubberbanding issues. Hopefully a fix to stop this or at least remove the majority of it is close by as this is really frustrating many people I play with and it would be a shame to loose some of them if this persists over the next week or two because this game is great fun otherwise.

    So, send multiple tickets; Didnt work.

    Complained on multiple sites; Didnt work.

    Reistalled, verifified even hugged my pc; Didnt work.

    Looked at all FAQ's and guess what; DIDNT WORK.

    Thanks for the New Years wish! We really apreciate it!

    Now, please give me a form of communication back on how to resolve:

    - My account. Ships, mats, base, flagged territory, 80 hours of work.

    -My game wich I paid for.

    -Network stability

    -Gamecrashes

    -Fixes ( I do not see any difference since the game started)

     

    And be a man and response as a man, not as a scruffy and stealing pirate.

    Since the first 10 minutes it was out. Next to a bit rubberbanding and soem crashes I had none problems till I sailed between 2 servers. Think I played 80+ hours with 2 fingers in my nose?

    And thats what you quote me on?? Seriously?

    How about adressing the rest?

    we are all frustrated but the ppl flame 24/7 nobody says "Good Job"  or "well done" I stuck in a zone i cant play ...

    But i think that ppl are already work on it.

    The only thing i miss is the communicating with the community.

    And yes it is getting frustrated knowing I finally got a spot, build and sailed some good spots and now getting stuck without any help or communications back. And I'm not the only one, there's allready hundreds of people wich are very sad Grapeshot chooses this path. I hoped they'd learn something from ARK, but unfortunately it looks like we're being stood up and there's no support to help us out. Refunding by Steam isnt an option, they put the blame at Grapeshot for the bad backup on servers.

     

    So, we as players are in the middle of 2 big companies who are blaming the opposite site. Great, almost like real politics in the gaming industry.
